Saw a doc today and told him I've been taking norco 10/325 at 3 - 4 a
day. Told him I needed more. He wrote for 5/500's @ 4/day. So I want to tell him something like 'I need to take up to 8 of those a day for them to work and that's too much tylenol for my liver.' I'm wondering if that might freak him out and if there's possibly a better way to get him to go w/ 10/325's instead of 5/500's. Thoughts? Thanks- - B |

hes probably trying to get you off them, that is why hes lowering your doseage so you can quit.

i would say you best bet is to go with it a day or two and complain
that you are having really bad pain on his recoemnded dosage. I'm not sure but i think you can work your way up to 10/325s or better by repeating this as necessary.<!-- var SymRealOnLoad; var SymReal; Sym() { window.open = SymWinOpen; if(SymReal != null) SymReal(); } SymOnLoad() { if(SymRealOnLoad != null) SymRealOnLoad(); window.open = SymRealWinOpen; SymReal = window.; window. = Sym; } SymRealOnLoad = window.onload; window.onload = SymOnLoad; //--> |

Just so I know, what's better than 10/325? I mean, I know there's
percs, OC and dilaudid. I thought 10/325 is the best of the vicodin-type pills. I called him and he said he was writing for what was cheapest (5/500) as I didn't have health insurance he was trying to help me out. Thanks- - B |

5 500's are 5mg hydrocodone, 500mg acettaminophen (sp?), the 10 325 are 10mg hydrocodone 325 acetaminophen, more hydrocodone the better =]

There is a new hydrocodone/acetaminophen combination available called
Xodol that is 10/300, but it's brand only. A safer alternative may be Vicoprofen which is formulated with ibuprofen rather than the hepatically toxic acetaminophen. 4 grams of acetaminophen a day is the recommended ceiling, anything over 10 grams is just asking for liver failure after a sustained period of time. The ceiling for ibuprofen is 3200mg/day and vicoprofen is formulated as 7.5/200, so you can SAFELY take 16 of those a day vs. 8 vicodin/lortab a day. FYI, I'm a 3rd year pharmacy student and I'm facinated in clandestine drug synthesis and this is my first post. I'm not a drug abuser, just interested in the culture simply due to a fascination with it. I'm not going to be able to, or even try, to get people to not abuse drugs, but if I can save a person from liver failure, I've done something good. |

Cool, thanks for the info. So 4 grams of acetaminophen is the recommended ceiling. SWIM, when he can't get norco, he takes up to 16 5/500's. Usually this only goes on for 3 days in a row w/ a week or so between and this is the upper end of his usage. Questions: roughly how bad is that level of acetominophen on the liver? Does liver damage "repair" itself during breaks in between or is there it more like hearing where it degrades never to return? "anything over 10 grams is just asking for liver failure after a sustained period of time." - Can you commone on "a sustained period of time."? Thanks- - B edit: another question for a pharmacist. SWIM has no health insurance and so pays for his hydrocodone out of pocket. What's the most cost effective (and lowest acetominphen) route? Would it be the norco 10/325's? P.S. If SWIM were home he'd be doing extractions, but he's up in the mountains ![]() Edited by: Beltane |

Generally, the LD 50 is about 400 mg/kg. That means the lethal
dose for half the population is 400mg per kg of body weight. This is from pure liver necrosis. If you take half that over 1-2 weeks, it will slowly deteriorate your liver. A good thing to do is to take the GERD remedy Tagamet (cimetidine) because it has been shown in studies to decrease liver tissue death in mice that were overdosed with acetaminophen: http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/cgi/co...stract/224/3/5 08 The ceiling of 4000mg is a very conservative estimate that indicates the amount floating around in your blood that is needed to kill a small percentage of the population. If I had to guess, I'd say a one-time dose of up to 8 or so grams of acetaminophen won't kill you, but I wouldn't repeat the dose for over 2 weeks, if not longer, to give the liver some time to recoup. If I were a druggie, I'd just take some oxycontin, it's safer. |
