I have a site I found which was spoken highly of that sells San Pedro
cuttings by either 6 or 12" cuttings. I would post the site, but Im not sure if that is alowed. Anyhow, would a six inch cutting generally be enough for one person? Also, if anyone wants to post a link to how make an extraction that would be cool |

A six inch cutting will probably not enough. Try the 12 inch ones. You
could get a threshhold trip from one. Better is to let them grow for a few years. Older cacti are more potent. I posted an extraction method here a few days ago. If you are in a hurry, if the 2-3 weeks it takes are too long for you, you can eat it fresh or boil it. For fresh you have to remove the spikes, remove the skin and the wooden core, using mostly only the green tissue under the skin, put the green tissue in a blender with some grapefruit or pineapplejuice (just enough juice to make it liquid enough to be drinkable) and drink it. This way you probably will lose nearly no alkaloids. Or you can cook cactislices or blended cactislices in acidic water for several hours. Use fresh water every 1-1,5 hours. Proceed until the cookingwater tastes no longer bitter. Put all the cookingwaterfractions together and boil off most of the water. The remaining liquid you can drink. Cooking however seems to destroy some alkaloids. Some people dry the cactus, grind it into powder, put the powder into capsules and swallow them. |

Tried the capsule thing once, never again! It takes a heck of a lot of capsules to fit all that powder in.
75-100 grams of dry powder are the minimum effective dose IMHO. That's a lot of capsules. An easier way to deal with the dry powder is to make some jello, then stir in the pedro powder, and put the jello in the 'fridge to chill and set up. Then cut up the jello into little squares, and slide them down the hatch. But I do prefer the fresh cactus juice over the powder any day. Seems to taste better, or at least less offensive, than the dry stuff. 12-24 inches of fresh is usually my dose. |
