Less known films on drug & alcohol addiction

Before giving you a list of some less known, but very interesting, documentaries and movies on drug addiction SWIM would like to apologize if:
a) his English is far from perfect
b) this isn’t the right place where to post
c) he isn’t allowed to start a new thread (though swim seems to remember that newbies are allowed to do so, please correct him if he is wrong).
d) and, most important, if someone has already talked about the following films. Swim has read many post on this here forum, he might has missed the ones referring to the following movies...

-Dom kallar oss mods (They Call Us Misfits) 1968:
Ett anst ndigt liv (A Decent Life) 1979
Det sociala arvet (Misfits To Yuppies) 1993
Documentary.Trilogy.
In 1968 a young man named Stefan Jarl made a feature documentary about two Stockholm "Mod" hippies. "They Call Us Misfits" was intended to allow teenagers to see themselves. The film not only succeeded in that, but after some trouble with censors over sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll – it become a reference point for Scandinavian film.
Jarl went on to make two more films about misfits Kenta and Stoffe in 1979 and 1993. In the sequels, restlessness and pot smoking give way to family trouble and heroin overdoses –plus the paradox of yuppie offspring. The films bare the unattractive underbelly of the Swedish welfare state. Reviews on imdb. No links to free watch. *Explicit sex and drug use
-Rain in my heart (2007).
Documentary which follows four alcohol abusers - Vanda, aged 43; Mark, 29; Nigel, 49 and Toni, 26 - from the impoverished Medway towns of north Kent. Filmed over the course of a year, Paul Watson's camera follows them from Gillingham's Medway Maritime Hospital to their homes, resulting in a film that illustrates the troubles they face and the impact of their behaviour on those around them. The fact that two of the four died during filming is grim testimony to the illness of alcoholism. Reviews on imdb. No links to free watch.
***BEWARE: very graphic depiction of alcohol binge. Can be triggering.
-Story of a junkie (aka Gringo) 1987: documentary
We follow Gringo as he skates his way through New York’ lower east side in search of the next fix. Fascinating for swimmers who spent significant time there (some might even remember that guy): it gives an ethereal sense of that time and place. That neighbourhood it is not like that anymore. Reviews on imdb. No links to free watch.*Graphic drug use.
-Through a blue lens1999: documentary
Vancouver police took a different route to cleaning up the streets. Instead of handcuffing all the addicts on the streets and taking them in, they filmed them to teach the next generation the horrible effects of addiction to hardcore drugs. Reviews on imdb. No links to free watch.*Graphic drug use.
That’s it for now: a way too long thread already. More info on these films are easily obtained through google and are available as torrents. If fellow swimmers think this thread has some interest, SWIM has more film and movies to talk about.
Thank you all for reading this!

Re: Less known films on drug & alcohol addiction

I'm sure its been mentioned elsewhere, but "TV Junkie" is intense. This guy had it all, and videotaped his downfall himself. It is very personal and I think will really have an effect on you. I was thinking about this film long after I watched it.

Re: Less known films on drug & alcohol addiction

My friend used to watch Intervention all the time (show on A&E).
Not exactly less known, but would like to point out that for anyone interested, she found a girl (think it's a girl anyhow) that posts Intervention episodes as they air (roughly) and just search 'NTVN' on youtube...
If you don't have the station at home.

My friend finds it difficult to watch any drug related stuff nowadays, she is not sure why....
She squirms around a lot seeing needles and gets worked up seeing ppl use and this that and the other....
And gets headfuck from just seeing the dirtiness of the world that exists for some people, the pain, whatever....like it sticks with her and gives her bad dreams lol

Sorry, went a bit off topic...
However, she knows she knows of several films which were more obscure, if not loads, but can't seem to make her memory work properly at the moment and bring up any titles. She will share anything she thinks of if she does....

Re: Less known films on drug & alcohol addiction

Swim remembers there was a interesting short series on VH1 called "Shooting Sizemore".......please correct him if he is wrong.......basicly it was actor Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan,Pearl Harbor) filming himself self destructing with the usual substances.......Swim only caught a episode and a half,He thought it was going to be perversely entertaining.....but turned out to be disturbingly sad. It might have been better if Tom Hanks co-stared...........

Re: Less known films on drug & alcohol addiction

A movie I saw once that has a few trailers and snippets on youtube is a film called "Night Junkies". It is about addiction, however not drugs, but blood. It's a modern, realistic spin on vampires, portraying them as junkies who prowl the streets, addicted to the blood of normal people. It's set in London, and we are taken into the main character Vincent's nightly life. In the film, night junkies take to the streets of London each night feeding on their victims to get their blood, and shutting themselves away during the daytime. Eventually Vincent meets a stripper named Ruby who he feeds from, unable to deny his addiction, but holds himself back from killing her. She slowly starts developing the condition, and the two attempt to overcome their blood habits. There's also a psychopath, who turns out to be a junkie also, who is sent to kill Ruby and Vincent by Ruby's old boss.

I find it a fascinating concept, and the film draws many similarities between vampires and junkies. Although it's a fairly low budget film, I found it worth watching. The main issue is the addiction to blood itself, and not simply "LAWL VAMPIRES", which makes it an interesting watch. Recommended for lovers of drug and/or vampire flicks.
