Pill Testing at Ecstasydata.org to close

Unless funds are found by the end of this week, the pill-testing program
Ecstasydata.org www.ecstasydata.org will be forced to shut down, at least
temporarily. Ecstasydata.org is an independent laboratory program which
allows people to send in pills to be analyzed with a GC/MS test, with the
results posted on the web. The site was born from MAPS' initial small
ecstasy pill-testing project which was greatly expanded by DanceSafe,
and is now co-sponsored by Erowid, Dancesafe, and MAPS. Ecstasy pills
listed on the site commonly contain caffeine, methamphetamine, DXM,
pseudoephedrine, and MDA, as well as or instead of MDMA. The site
aimed to reduce harm for users, and to dispel common myths about
street-ecstasy's contents, in particular, the one about ecstasy containing
heroin. Ironically, after nearly 10 years of proving this rumor false, the
first MDMA/fentanyl combination was recently found, just as funds for
the program were running out (a sign that the program should continue).
Because this is so unheard of, the pill is being retested, because it is
suspected that the outer surface may have contained the opiate residue
from being stored with other drugs. An article in Australia's Hearld Sun
reported that a pill-testing study there found many pills to be counterfeit,
and to contain ingredients such as horse tranquilizers, morphine, speed,
and nerve-numbing agents.

Ecstasy Testing Project Currently Out Of Funds
(Aug 1, 2005)

The Ecstasy Testing Program has run out of funds. Testing costs $1,700
per month in laboratory fees for 15 pills / month with a $30 co-pay.

If you would like to pay for the entire lab cost for the pill ($115 USD),
you can have your pill tested. See Send Tablet.

We are seeking a professional grant writer to help us apply for
appropriate grants to fund the project. If you qualify, please email

quite awfull in my opinion. As somebody who really enjoys E but likes to know what he is taking before he actually injests it is appaled. Can any donations be made now? and will the lab ever be re-opened?

Not for lack of interest, or lack of need; but the lack of funds. It was a terrible shame that this program, which has educated millions and perhaps even saved lives, should end so abruptly when it was needed most.

Now it's about to happen all over again.

In March of 2005 (less than two weeks away as of this writing), the funds I provided to bring the pill testing program back online will run out; and I will not be able to replenish them myself. In order for this wonderful and important program to continue, we need your help.

Knowing what drug(s) their pill contains gives them an accurate picture of the risks they will face if they do choose to take it.

Why did I decide to step in and help the program one year ago? I'm not a wealthy philanthropist, as you might think. My income does not qualify me for anything better than middle-class. I chose to tap into some of my savings and my disposable income for the year; forego a few luxuries and improvements to my home. Instead I did something good for the world, something I can be proud of forever.

If you're reading this, you probably take for granted the importance of the testing program. But perhaps in taking it for granted, you've forgotten just how important it really is.

Medical research with the chemical MDMA (Ecstasy) has recently begun in the United States. What this makes clear is that MDMA can be administered safely in a safe environment with a medication that is known to be pure. To date, medical science has primarily focused on fixing things when they are broken. Infections, broken bones, specific infectious diseases — conventional medicine is astonishingly advanced in these areas. What has been neglected, however, is overall health and well-being. Any medical practitioner will tell you that, even in this advanced age of science, most of what they do is try to help our bodies heal themselves. And our bodies do this best when we are happy, health, and spiritually fulfilled.

MDMA has an obvious potential as a medicine to work on these criticial, yet subtle parts of general health. Many people who take ecstasy are seeking the same effects which are being investigated for medical utility. The problem, of course, is that Ecstasy's black market status means that the effectiveness and safety of the pills that an individual can acquire are highly variable: in many cases not even the dealers know what they contain, or they may have inconclusive information about them. This results in many bad experiences, injury, or even very occasionally, death.

The pill testing program gives people the knowledge they need to get real MDMA of reasonable quality and to avoid the most dangerous adulterants. It provides a buffer against the uncertainty of the black market.

According to the DEA, over 100 million doses of MDMA are consumed in the US each year. The true number is probably much higher. In other words, the danger of the black market stops few, if any, people from using MDMA. The DanceSafe/MAPS/Erowid pill testing program arms millions of Americans, and many more worldwide, with the knowledge they need to keep themselves safe.

But now this program is about to disappear again. The amount of money it needs to keep going for another year is about $18,000: a paltry sum compared to the immense good it will do in that time.

You're not a wealthy philanthropist, but neither was I. You don't have to be. Just 500 people contributing $30 each will save this program!
