Treatment for Meth on East Coast (Phila/NYC)
SWIM is looking for outpatient groups or inpatient programs in the tri-state who specifically deal with people who use Meth and have ways to handle the cravings and the boredom and the other shit mainstream drug counselors and docs don't understand about the culture which including pnp and the rest. Thanks everyone.
There's local Crystal Meth Anonymous meetings 4 nights a wk in Philly and on avg 6-8 ppl attend each night. SWIM can go there totally broken and be welcomed unconditionally. People just like me can change and I go there to hear about that. That said, SWIM is at present a heavy IV-user and often mixes speed with heroin. Right now it has been recommended that SWIM pursue more intensive care. SWIM looks forward to the time when meetings are enough.
But the rehab people (counselors and doctors) in this area have no experience dealing with this drug. They tell SWIM what he's feeling coming off the drug isn't actual because their textbooks tell them Meth is not technically addictive, only a psychological dependence. If they do let you into the detox they sure as hell won't dole out a bleeding xanax for the withdrawal. They keep trying to tell SWIM coming off speed is like coke, being that they're both "stimulants." Uh sure, only 400x worse. Stupid counselors I hate them. SWIM tells them that in Kensington (Philly) powdered cocaine is just something you buy on the street in a 10$ bag as an accessory to jack up your heroin, nothing more.
Anyways help anyone please thanks for letting SWIM rant.
