Suboxone Prescription Question
Hey everybody,
A lot of swim's life has been characterized by a kind of episodic depression. One of these, actually, perhaps the most difficult one, was more or less erased with the help of a hydrocodone script he had gotten after an operation to remove his wisdom teeth-- 20 days of taking the prescribed dose and his worldview more or less snapped back into being healthy. He's currently seeing a counsellor who, after hearing this, has more than once suggested his seeing a psychiatrist, as he, to her, has responded positively to drug therapy (she explicitly cites his hydrocodone use here). To swim, anyway, a suboxone prescription in the case of depression seems like it wouldn't happen very often, although it is listed as an anti-depressant treatment option. What do you swiyou guys think about the likelihood of it happening? thanks a lot. |

Re: Suboxone Prescription Question
Has SWIY tried other anti-depressants before? Opiates come with a very real burden, especially over the long term, and trying other medications first would probably be the best option, if SWIY hasn't done it already.
SWIM is not sure about suboxone for depression, but SWIM is almost positive that in the U.S., opiates are not allowed to be prescribed for depression alone, in the form of guidelines that doctors are expected to follow so as not to get in trouble. SWIY would probably be hard pressed to find a doctor that would do that. Now, in SWIM's experience, getting a prescription for suboxone was as easy as going to suboxone .com, looking up local doctors, walking in with $50, telling the doctor he is on heroin, answering a few questions about his use for dosing purposes, and walking out with a prescription within 15 minutes of waiting and 5 minutes of talking to the doc. Nothing invasive or medical at all, and the doctor didn't try and do any tricks to see if he was lying or not. That is not the case everywhere though, there just happens to be such a huge heroin problem where SWIM is that they dish it out like candy. If SWIY lives around a major city though, odds are getting a suboxone prescription is easy, if that is a route SWIY wishes to try. SWIY should really try everything else possible first, though. |

Re: Suboxone Prescription Question
DT, know the funny thing is, in swims area, somewhere in canada, swim has never seen a suboxone Rx. Doctors just prescribe methadone, taper them off the narcotics with narcotics if they dont have methadone license, or just prescribe benzo's and tylenol 3. Swim always thought that when a patient goes to a doctor and says for instance " Im addicted to dilaudid" the doctor cannot prescribe that drug due to their oath to "protect the public", but swim has found in his area this is not true. Swim knows for a fact that an old friend of his, we'll just call her, painin theass, was addicted to morphine, there was no room in the hospital for her to taper, so she was prescribed morphine, she had to go to pharmacy every day to pick up a prescription for 4 30mg ,mscontin. But, swim will add the nearest methadone clinic is 2 hours away, and the nearest detox is 1.5 hours away. They only do it when all other options are exhausted, such as, detox center is full, no beds in hospital and many other factors, but it is done, Swim is 100% sure. This made swim very angry at first because he had to fight for 2 years to get the pain meds he needed, and an addict walks in and gets them
, swim is much more understanding now though, then he was at the time.

Re: Suboxone Prescription Question
Slim had a buddy whose doctor gave him (for an opiate addiction: mostly oxy and fent but a little heroin thanks to Slim) at first Methadone, then Subutex, then hydrocodone, then roxicodone, then dilaudid, then back to methadone finally. All of this was at the patients suggestion, as well. Of course, doctors like these are very hard to come by.
But anyway, to get back on topic of the OP, a Suboxone script is definitely easy to come by, as long as swiy says he's an opiate addict and has some cash on it. The question is whether swiy wants to get on to an addicting drug like suboxone just for depression. In my opinion, and many others' as well, Suboxone should ONLY be used to treat addiction, or maybe mild pain relief, I don't know. But I mean, suboxone is almost as addicting as methadone (it is as addicting as heroin I would say) and it's primary function is to help with addiction, which in my opinion is absolute hell. Slim has dealt with serious depression before, and would much rather be depressed than have this ever-looming heroin addiction on his back. |
