Drug info - Cannabis period of storage

Hello!

I've searched the forum, but didn't find any exact answer how long cannabis can last. Is there any period of storage? And what's the danger to use it after a long time period?

Cowboy would think that if left in the open air, different strains would keep themselves better than others. The worst thing SWIY can do is let it dry out too much; this makes the the smoke very harsh when used. It is always best to store weed in an airtight container so this does not happen. Cowboy thinks a humidor (normally for cigars, but also perfect for weed) is best, though. He found this out by accident once after he had left his weed in his backpack and left the backpack outside overnight. The backpack and weed didn't get wet themselves because they were right under some awning, but being in the damp environment provided the buds with just a tiny bit of moisture; not enough to allow mould to grow, but enough that the smoke was noticeably smoother and easier to inhale when Cowboy used it the next morning.

One cheap solution is to get a glass herb jar that seals well. I was in Crate & Barrel (a chain in the United States) the other day and they were selling small ones for $1.95. The jars even had a sign next to them saying "Get these jars to keep your herbs fresh!"

The jars are currently available on their website as "Spice Jars".

Yes, the Container Store is also good. Cowboy would imagine that they have everything you could possibly want for storing weed, except the best one: a cigar humidor.

Simply keeping it in a rolled up plastic bag works too but not as well as a jar. Your weed isnt about to get moldy from just moisture or just leaving it out. You would have to leave it out with no type of sealing for weeks , even months before it gets moldy. But it will get dry and harsh which isnt good.

If properly dried cured and stored mj buds can last very long without a decrease in effects/taste. This is based in SWIM's experience, he's smoked weed up to 2 years old and found it even nicer than the first dried bud from the same plant.

He dries the plants hanging them in a closet at room temp. Then cuts the buds and put them into wood boxes for another month and finally he stores them into plastic or crystal jars. SWIM always keeps his weed in the dark.

Yes, in the dark should go without saying. As Cowboy stated above, humidors are the best, but of course are prohibitively expensive if SWIY grows many plants and has a lot of weed to store. Cowboy remembers reading in a book a few years ago that SWIY should poke a hole in the middle of the lid of said jars, e.g. with a nail, but he can't remember if this was just for curing or would also work for long-term storage.

It's also important to keep temperatures low. The refrigerator is a good place for long-term storage, according to Monkey. However, a cool cellar or garage would be fine too. Monkey wouldn't leave his weed in hot places like an attic or in a vehicle during summer with the windows rolled up.

Cowboy has also taken his stash into the shower with him, leaving the bag slightly open on the counter so the weed could absorb a little of the mist. It made the herb smoother smoking...
