Terms like Alcoholic and Addict are dehumanizing and unethical

Why do some people insist on using labels like addict and alcoholic. They are dehumanizing and therefore unethical in swims opinion. When someone identifies as an alcoholic or addict, swim cringes. Even swim has used these dehumanizing terms before. If its simply for convenience, than its time we change it.

Do y'all think terms like addict and alcoholic are dehumanizing also? Could this be possibly the goal of some treatment centers to dehumanize in the hopes that positive consequences will result? Like the military does by referring to people by their rank. Or perhaps it helps people to stay humble and therefore sober?(in some twisted bizarre way)

Agree? Disagree?
