Proper dosage/ingestion
Friend of mine picked up 2oz of NOW Foods brand Kava Kava extract. It comes with an eyedropper. He was wondering the proper dosage/route of administration to get a "buzz" or "high.." Would a few drops on tinfoil, then lit from beneath (chasing the dragon) be suitable? Thanks

Re: Proper dosage/ingestion
Just a heads up, vendor or store specific brand names are forbidden here, it can be a difficult call, so it's often best to check with one of the mods.
There were no directions on the bottle? If there are, follow those. Not everything can be smoked, kava is usually meant for oral consumption and smoking be be dangerous, or at least VERY uncomfortable, it is a species of pepper, and having burned black pepper, wound NOT recommend that route. Take a drop and put it under the tongue, see what happens, if nothing, try again, try a few more. So far, kava-kava seems to have a pretty safe dose curve, it's going to be hard to OD, at least for raw kava-kava, an old friend once sat up all night drinking it continuously with a village of old ladies with no ill effect. Though one must be careful with concentrated extracts, as their dosing can be MUCH more potent. There really isn't any info on the bottle? |

Re: Proper dosage/ingestion
Yeah, the bottle says put 1-3 drops in beverage a few times a day/as needed. I was just wondering if there was a way to speed the process up
I drank 3 eyedroppers full in a glass of water, fell asleep about an hour and had some pleasant dreams hehP.s. thanks for the heads up about the brand name, can't edit OP anymore - mods? ;x |

Re: Proper dosage/ingestion
I recently did some research on Kava-Kava in ongoing efforts to find the best non-prescription anxiety remedy. Here what I can tell you.
The active ingredient to look for in Kava products are Kavalactones. A bowl of traditionally prepared Kava prepared from root powder would contain about 280mg of Kavalactones, and natives typically consume a few bowls of Kava in one evening. Most products only a small amount of Kavalactones and require multiple doses to achieve a full Kava experience. It would be impossible to ingest enough by "chasing the dragon". Still many people taking large enough doses of Kava supplements report more favorable result from the raw root powder or paste. I, unfortunately, turned out to be one of the .5 percent of the population that is allergic to Kava, breaking out with hives after taking a few Kava extract capsules. |
