A good friend ofswim has a really hard time sleeping at night, so she has been taking valium for the past few days, it works very well for her however valium is addictive, and she has been very addicted to things in the past, so i told her i would look up some natural ways to help her sleep.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urnchemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

Melatonin works well. It is also naturally occuring in the body, it regulates your sleep patterns.

5-htp always sends me to bed (1.5 hours bafter eating) otherwise you could always go with valerium.

Valerian root is a great herb that will make you drowsy and put you to sleep without making you dependant.

5-htp is a precursor to serotonin. When you take it levels of
serotonin are increased, leading to increased melatonin levels which
helps you sleep.

Right now I'm using a combo of the two, which works very well

Here is a really good one:

Corydalis Yanhusuo, the active ingredient is THP, tetrahydropalmatine.

You can find at chinese herbal places online, a product that is an
extract of this plant with 80% THP content. This is what you
want, along with a milligram scale, as it is very potent stuff.

Wife has perenial insomnia, and she is able to sleep well within 30
minutes of taking a gelcap that contains 50-75mg of this extract.
I usually prepare the capsules with the extract in the bottom, then
fill then up with powdered ashwaganda herb. She weighs 125 lbs.

Myself, weight 220 lbs, I'll use the same for normal sleep inducement.

If I'm on the comedown from AMT or other psychedelic stimulants, or
BZP, or any other stimulant, and it is absolutely impossible for me to
sleep, yet I must for some reason (like having to go to work the next
day) then I'll take 100mg of the extract. This is enough to
terminate the stimulation and induce a restfull sleep within 30-45
minutes after swallowing the capsule.

Neither of us notice any sort of "hangover" or residual effect the next
morning. However, if one gets up in the middle of the night to
piss, one is very unsteady on ones feet, and feels like one is on a high
opiate dose.

Now before all you opiate heads out there get any ideas of using this
as a recreational opiate, forget about that idea. Unless you like
to be high whilst sleeping, as you simply cannot stay awake long enough
on this stuff to feel the opiate effects.

We have noticed no slowing of respiration or heartrate while using this
extract at the dosages described above. And even when I took
250mg once to see if it had recreational potential, still now slowing
of those functions. Just an overpowering feeling of wanting to
laydown and go to sleep.

I would not recommend using this herb every day for insomnia, as I
cannot vouch for the safety of such a thing. But we've been using it on
an occasional basis for 5 years now with no ill effects, taking it no
more than 3 times a week.

So it is an ally for you in the search for something to help insomnia.

I like a 50/50 mix with weed and a 30x passion flower extract works wonders and takes about 3 mins to take effect. Make sure your close to your bedroom!

I also hear the valerian root works quite well too. Or is you wanna be really stupid a few of those valiums and some beer! just kidding that is a very bad idea

enough ketamine will make her sleep right away (this is a joke please dont do this)

As previously mentioned melatonin in my book is they key. SWIM has Personal experience with Melatonin and finds is very good at inducing a normal sleep pattern. Note however that you cannot make someone with a normal sleep pattern sleepier and more sedate by using it, it just returns to a sustained equilibrium of what one might call "normal"

As for the other herbs and extracts people are talking about i'm not sure. SWIM has had no experience with them. SWIM tends to find he is always wanting to be stimulated not depressed, his opiates that he has to take for pain tend to make him generally drowsy most of the time anyway.

I found some formula 303 in my medicine cabinet from years ago. It has 264mg of quad strength valerian root and 132mg of quad strangth passion flower. I am 6'4" 210lbs and have a pretty high natural tolerance to most substances, sadly enough. What is a normal dose for sedation? for inducing sleep? I just need a place to start. And a while back i read somewhere that passion plower extract was an MAOI, is this true? Should i worry about what i eat and taking these?
