Study: Arrestees taking less illegal drugs

Study: Arrestees taking less illegal drugs

Fifty-eight percent of women and 57 percent of men who were arrested in San Diego County last year tested positive for an illegal substance, the lowest rate since testing began in 2000, according to a study released Tuesday by the San Diego Association of Governments.

The percentage of female arrestees who tested positive for at least one drug is down from 69 percent in 2007, 75 percent in 2006 and 2005 and 66 percent in 2000, according to SANDAG.

The percentage of male arrestees with drugs in their blood stream was the same as in 2007, but down from 66 percent in 2006, 68 percent in 2005 and 64 percent in 2000, according to SANDAG.

For the “2008 Adult Arrestee Drug Use in the San Diego Region” report, 767 men and women who were booked into the Central Jail, Vista Jail and Las Colinas Women’s Detention Facility consented to being tested for marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and PCP, according to SANDAG.
