Question Trying to kick a few addictions at once

Hey, everyone. This is my first post, not including my introduction. Anyway, this looks like a great forum -- not judgmental and not solely about kicking addictions. God, those sites suck, and they always try to sell you some sketchy audio tapes or something. Who the hell listens to tapes these days anyway?

Anyway, Swim spent his entire life super squeaky clean -- no alcohol, drugs, very health-conscious and so on. Shortly after Swim finished college (that's right, Swim started drugs after college -- weird I know), Swim changed his life philosophy and began to experiment with a number of different substances. Now, Swim has finished graduate school and is planning on moving for a job to a country with extremely severe laws against marijuana (in the country where Swim is moving, one can be arrested and imprisoned for several years for only failing a drug test, which the police can administer at any time for any or no reason, and foreigners are often targeted for such tests). But, the job in that country pays bank and Swim needs cash really badly, so it's important that Swim kick his various habits, including cannabis, alcohol, and a new affection for cigarettes. Thankfully Swim has over a month to get the drugs out of his system, and is working hard at doing so. Swim stopped smoking at the beginning of October, so Swim is 5 days in after being a very heavy weed smoker for a little over a year.

It's kind of a triple-whammy trying to kick several habits all at once, so Swim's looking for both advice and what to expect when quitting all his habits cold turkey. Swim has been feeling jittery, depressed, and bored. Swim doesn't know if this is normal, but he has been having mild hallucinations when his eyes are closed (and the images aren't fun). This is very unsettling for him. He realizes that marijuana is not physically addicting, but psychological addiction is still very powerful, and has physical effects.

Thanks for reading, folks. Best of luck to all of the Swims out there trying to make a big lifestyle change.

Re: Trying to kick a few addictions at once

How much alcohol did Swiy drink/ how much exactly did smoke?

If I were Swiy I'd work out/ drink water heavily ASAP until the job starts, and if he's gotten himself that deep in a year where the laws of the new place wouldn't be enough, I'd tell him to reconsider his use when he got back.

PS. Weed can be physically addicting, it's just that most smokers smokers never experience them and they're very mild in comparison to hard drugs.

No weed isn't physically addictive, but it possible with heavy use to become psychologically dependant.
