How long will SWIM's cutting last.
SWIM has recently purchased a rooted S. Divinorum cutting but for various reasons is unable to pot it at the moment.
The roots have a very small (mini yoghurt pot size) amount of soil wrapped in some kind of material to keep it together. The cutting from the base of the soil is about 2" and has 4 small leaves. It seems to have survived the first night. SWIM gave it as much water as he though was safe with the amount of soil and put a mayonnaise jar (clean, obviously - no label) over it to try to maintain moisture levels. SWIM is just wondering how many days it is likely to survive like this. |

Re: How long will SWIM's cutting last.
As long as swiy's cutting has a reasonable amout of roots, swiy's cutting can be alright for as long as two weeks before being potted so long as swiy keeps swiy's cutting moist.
The best method to water is to drop the cutting into a bowl of water every few days and then to let it dry out somewhat almost to the point of wilting, then to pot on swiy's cutting into no bigger than a 3" pot (any bigger at this time of year would be too much as the plant will be slowing down it's growth for winter), also swim would recommend a peat based compost and if swiy are really willing, a heated propagator unit which will aid rooting a great deal. Swim would not recommend keeping his cutting in a sealed jar as the moisture levels may be to high and cause rotting also lack of air circulation. Swim recommends keeping swiy's cutting in partial shade maybe in a bathroom with good ventilation and light or above a kithchen sink until the swiy is able to pot the cutting on. Although humidity is good for this salvia, they are very adaptable and can tolerate less humidity especially at this time of year. Never let swiy's plant drop below 7-8'c or the cold may cause problems and certailnly keep away from frost. I hope this is of use to swiy

Re: How long will SWIM's cutting last.
Thanks for the fast reply. SWIM did read it but he's been too busy/distracted to reply.
Supposedly the plant seems to be surviving and growing but SWIM still hasn't been able to get his hands on what he needs. Hurray for public transportation .
