New drug on streets (DOI)
They say the illegal drug DOI has effects even more marked than those experienced when taking LSD. The drug is similar in appearance and effects to LSD, but the hallucinations it causes can last up to three days longer. Authorities say other short-term effects include mood swings and nausea, but effects can vary significantly from one user to another. Police think production of the drug could be happening in South Australia. Detective Inspector John De Candia says it has been detected in the metropolitan area but also seized in SA's south-east. "It seems to be something predominantly in South Australia, there has been a seizure in Queensland but the majority are in South Australia and it's probably been over the last month or two or three months where it's started to emerge," he said. "One of the street names for it can be wangers, there's also the name of it as doctor eye. "They maybe selling it as trips, as LSD, and the concern is the fact that LSD may have a reaction after probably two hours or three hours and last up to 12 hours - they may not get an effect from this drug for about 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 hours." Jeff Munro from the Australian Drug Foundation says DOI has been found in the United States for some time but rarely in Australia until now. "There are certainly health dangers with this drug and it's a drug that people should be very wary of," he said. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...02/2702943.htm Last edited by Alfa; 03-10-2009 at 10:05. Re: new drug on streets
Here is the article you are talking about:
Extra-strong new hallucinogenic drug hits Adelaide, police warn A NEW hallucinogenic drug which lasts three days longer than LSD has emerged in Adelaide, police say. The drug, referred to as DOI, is increasingly coming to the attention of South Australian police and health officials. The drug can have fatal effects and has strong hallucinogenic properties including visual and audio distortion, SA Police Detective Inspector John de Candia said. Consistent with other synthetic hallucinogens such as LSD, the effects of DOI are unpredictable and can vary for each user, Mr De Candia said in a statement. The Royal Adelaide Hospital has reported treating a number of hallucinogen overdoses from unknown substances consistent with the toxicity of DOI, he said. Some users reported feeling fearful due to the intensity and duration of the effect of the drug, which lasts two to three days longer than LSD, he said. Mr De Candia said effects included mood swings, anxiety, paranoia, exhilaration, numbness, muscle twitching, increased heart rate and blood pressure, and nausea and vomiting. Re: new drug on streets
wait, consistent like other unpredictable psychedelics? Proves how well thought out this article is..... And don't you just LOVE how only the negative effects are given and how the drug is demonized, although it's "new"?

Re: new drug on streets
You mean they are saying the amphetamine analogue of 2C-I is a new drug? Whats wrong with media. Can't they ever report a story involving drugs after checking facts? It first appeared publicly in literature with it's entry in PIHKAL and that was in 1991, and before that DOB and DOM have been around since the 60's. they try to paint it in a dangerous light because it's "a NEW hallucinogenic drug". How many thousands of millions of trips have been taken from DOI since 1991? Enough with few hospital visits to deem it a relatively safe drug. And no deaths so far

Re: new drug on streets
Personally, I do think it's a concern that it can last up to 2 or 3 days. And its quite likely that there are dealers passing DOI off as LSD or another substance.

Oh and it doesn't help that Pihkal is a banned book of Australia. How can people explore safely without reference material that reduces risk? They can come to this site that's for sure! |

Oh of course, I agree with what you're saying 100% Desertfox. I'm just saying with the laws as they are, this isn't that benign of a drug.

Re: new drug on streets
If the drug is being passed off as LSD, looked like LSD and cost the same, then if SWIM was expecting to have a nice afterglow the next day, waking up tripping balls for 3 days would be worrisome. IT would make SWIM think the tripping myth was true: "What if you NEVER came down". SWIM always did come down but the thought usually crosses his mind after the 12th hour of tracers and waves of color.
Swim would not think 3 days would be fun. Is sleep possible? |
