Cooking oil to keep from gettin wasted?
Swim heard from a little bird that if you take a shot of olive oil or such oil it will coat your stomach and keep swiy from getting drunk? Slows the absorption into blood i guess.
Anyone know about/tried this? sounds a lot like a trick to play on wasted friends at a party... |

Re: Cooking oil to keep from gettin wasted?
I imagine it could be quite nauseating. Anyway, what's the point in drinking if not to get drunk?
The less alcohol need the better imo! |

I've heard a rumour that drinking full fat milk before you start drinking will slow down alcohol absorption, which is presumably the same idea. San;t comment on its accuracy though.

Re: Cooking oil to keep from gettin wasted?
My step-brother would drink sardine oil before going out drinking to slow down absorbtion. He would also "pre-game" getting loaded on cheap vodka BEFORE driving to the bar, so as to "save money". Some how I never understood his goals in light of these conflicting practicies. He considered a night where he couldn't remember what happened "a good night". He would do things like get his tongue pierced or order high end electronics off of the home shopping channel. Frankly I think my step-brother was an idiot with some very severe drinking problems.

Re: Cooking oil to keep from gettin wasted?
Hector can relate to "Wtf i did last nite?" equals "awesome nite". He has to agree it's pretty fun thing. He also has memory problems when sober but that's a different story.
About the oil.Any fat will slower the absorbtion i believe but it should be in stomach at the same time with the alcohol so if one gets a shot of oil at home and then after 2h gets wasted it's pretty useless. |

Re: Cooking oil to keep from gettin wasted?
Yes...Any edible fat or oil will do the "trick". It is medically well known that the presence of fats in the stomach reduces the rate of absorption of alcohol, as well as slowing the gastric emptying (ie. into the intestine, for further digestion and absorption).
Generally, taking a few tablespoons of butter or margarine( maybe with a slice of bread or two) is more palatable than downing cooking oil ! But the bad side to this practice is, that the alcohol stays longer in the stomach before getting absorbed. This leads to lesser "effects" of drunkness ( ie takes longer to get drunk). So the end result may be that the person finally ends up taking much more TOTAL amount of alcohol in a night, thinking that they are still not yet drunk enough. Therefore they generally get MUCH TOO drunk towards the later part of the night and wake up much more sicker... This technique is good if one wants to drink at a party without getting too drunk. The vital part is that they should very carefully watch the number of drinks they take taht night, if they don't want to wake up sick the next morning. |

Re: Cooking oil to keep from gettin wasted?
If one wants to drink at a party with out getting too drunk, then it's much easier to simply not make such strong drinks, or alternate with glasses of water.
