is this a bad idea? SWIM plans on taking 200 mg of Tramadol and .50 mg of Xanax?

Immune to Tramadol because of Xanax ?

Swim takes tramadol on a regular basis, 3/4 times a week, about 250 - 300 mg.
Best (pharm) drugs Swim ever tried.
But from one day to to another SWim feels absolutely nothing when taking Tramadol, no matter what dose !

But the thing swim noticed was since swim got prescriped Xanax Retard, the effects of tramadol seems to dissapear.

Anyone ever noticed this ?
Or what could be the reason of not feeling anything of tramadol (no tolerance)

And another thing, anyone ever snorted Tramadol ?
how much is a good dose ?

Re: Immune to Tramadol because of Xanax ?

swim lived in belgium and abused the wonderful medical system alot. swim was from the states going to school. Swim broke his foot and ate tramadol. swim use to use morphine heroin and fentanyl alot. he felt great. swim thought maybe the 5 2mg xanax pills he had taken with the tramadol was also a reason for the high. swim had also taken about 10 tramadol.

Re: Mixing Tramadol and Xanax

It shouldnt be that bad of an idea. But your tolerance is what matters not my thoughts. Swim use to eat tramadol and xanax together like peas. swim stresses the pea part because swim has take at least 1000mg of tramadol and 10 mg of alprazolam at once or at least in a day

Re: Mixing Tramadol and Xanax

Well since tramadol has quite a stimulating effect unlike most opiates it should be fine. I'm not condoning or say go do it, but chances are swiy'll be ok. If swiy has enough I would recomend starting with 100mg or even 50 of tramadol, because the mix of the two should be quite nice together. Swim is going in for a kind of therapy session on Wednesday to try to obtain something for his anxiety problem and has a lot of tramadol at his disposal so I will report back soon with his findings. I don't think he ever took any tramadol while he was on valium for a couple weeks but he thinks he did once but it was only 2.5mg so only 1/4 of the dose equivilent of xanax that swiy want to take, but he was totally fine. Tramadol has the ability to keep him awake and fully alert for over 6 hours which by that time xanax should be rid of most of it's effects. Wow didn't realise the post was a year and a half old. I'm sure swiy has already tried this so just info for anyone wanting to do this.

Re: Immune to Tramadol because of Xanax ?

Xanax binds to the GABA receptor, which is unrelated to Tramadol. Tramadol acts at the opioid and serotonin reuptake receptors. So there should be no cross tolerance between the two. More likely there is a tolerance due to taking tramadol 3-4 times a week. In SWIM's experience, tolerance to tramadol builds more slowly than other opiates, but it still builds. Be wary of upping the dosage further though, seizures and negative side effects have been known to occur in dosages beyond 400 mg.

Snorting tramadol in SWIM's experience is a waste of drug, there's so many fillers in the pills that it makes way too much of a hassle to snort an amount that will work. The pills do not seem to absorb very well through the nose, either.

One big negative side effect Tramadol is known for is respiratory depression, which can be especially dangerous mixed with CNS depressants.

Here is what a simple drug interaction checker applet came up with for Tramadol and Xanax.

Ambulatory patients should be made aware of the possibility of additive CNS effects (e.g., drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, confusion) and counseled to avoid activities requiring mental alertness until they know how these agents affect them. Patients should also be advised to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.

Re: Mixing Tramadol and Xanax

Keep the doses of both low, especially the Tram as it has been known to give off negative side effects involving respiratory depression even at normal recreational doses for some individuals. Mixing it with xanax increases the potential for stronger CNS and respiratory depressing effects.

Things to watch out for if one attempts this combination: drowsiness, dizziness, lightheadedness, and confusion. Be safe and listen to your body, it generally lets you know when something is wrong.

Re: Mixing Tramadol and Xanax

Upon reviewing some published scientific papers on Tramadol, it seems that while not very dangerous on its own, recreational doses of Tramadol can be risky when mixed with other drugs - especially CNS depressants - and much more caution should be taken.

Case Report: Fatal overdose of tramadol and alprazolam - A 30-year-old woman, with history of depression, was found dead after the ingestion of an unknown quantity of Xanax (alprazolam), Tramal (tramadol) and alcohol.

Fatal overdoses of tramadol: is benzodiazepine a risk factor of lethality? - Tramadol is a centrally acting analgesic agent used in the treatment of mild to moderate pain. It has a low affinity to opioid receptors and inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrin and serotonin producing an analgesic action by blocking nociceptive impulses in the spine. Although 21 drug-combined fatalities including tramadol have been reported, only two fatal overdoses in adults with tramadol alone have been reported to date. We report four additional lethal intoxications, assess the toxicity of tramadol, the detection method and the possible interaction with other central nervous system (CNS) depressants, particularly benzodiazepines. Similarities between tramadol and buprenorphine are discussed, and a possible cytochrome P450-based interaction between tramadol and benzodiazepine is considered. To our knowledge, this relationship has never been reported in the literature.

Fatal unintentional intoxications with tramadol during 1995–2005 - This study examined fatal unintentional tramadol intoxications among Swedish forensic autopsy cases between 1995 and 2005. All fatal intoxications were selected, in which toxic concentrations of tramadol (>1 mg/g femoral blood) had been detected, and where the forensic pathologist considered the intoxication unintentional and the fatal outcome at least partly explained by tramadol. Toxicology analyses, police reports, autopsy protocols and medical records were scrutinized. A total of 17 cases (eleven men and six women) of fatal unintentional tramadol intoxications were identified.

Cannabis notwithstanding, swim would be wary of mixing Tramadol with any other psychoactive substances.

Re: Mixing Tramadol and Xanax

SWIdr has noticed that a semi-small dose of tramadol mixed with a benzo and or muscle relaxant makes it feel more like a traditional opiate high. SWIdr usually uses 400-800mgs of tramadol (NOT RECOMENDED, this is a very high dose due to tolerance) with 1 mg of alprazolam and most of the the stimulatory effects of tramadol dissapate. Be careful though if SWIY plans on mixing CNS depressants!!
