if you are addicted to/dependent upon any type of sedative/hypnotic/tranquilizer/gaba agonist/etc...

alcohol/benzos/barbiturates/z-drugs

NEVER GO COLD TURKEY unless you have a very low habit.

withdrawal from these drugs cold turkey is dangerous and not to mention completely miserable, you don't get a medal for going cold turkey. cold turkey is great for smoking cessation doesn't mean that it applies to every drug.

if you're quitting smoking cigarettes, yeah do cold turkey... downers need to be gradually tapered down.
