Smoking - Salvia "Technique"?

Hi, I've always wondered how a person determined to use Salvia Divinorum might most effectively smoke it. This person would be in possession of a hommade mettalic waterpipe.

How would such a person use a torch-lighter for the best salvinorin-a content??? How close should the flame be held, should it be applied constantly, or just untill the bowl is completely lit, etc.

Swim has found that the best smoking device is something like a bong or hookah, basically something with water, that hits immediately.

As far as the torch is concerned if Swiy hits the salvia and continues to light it with the torch for the first hit, then tries and light all the salvia left with the torch on the remaining hit/s then Swiy will probably be fine.

As mentioned in another post by Swim, be careful to only put into the smoking bowl what you want to smoke, if entering an intense trip, it is possible that swiy could continue to smoke the remainder of the bowl without even realizing. Just something to be aware of.

Also, Swim would highly reccomend that Swiy has a sitter. It would probably be a good thing for the sitter to be someone who will pay attention and not be bothersome as this could completely ruin the trip.

the ethelectricpenguin would suggest not to use a torch lighter unless there is a sitter present and/or it is of a self-extinguishing type.
The etherlectricpenguin fell foul of a butane pencil torch type lighter once, nearly setting fire to the etherlectrichome! S/he also used to use a coin placed on top of the bowl and that was heated first. Once the temp in the chamber was high (coin glowing) the flame was directed beneath the coin and full combustion of the salvia material occurred. This method also requires a sitter or heat proof floor/surroundings and DO NOT pick up the coin if dropped, as etherlectricpenguin once did, s/he learned by obtaining nice images of the royal portcullis on one finger and the Queens head on the thumb!
It apparently wasn't such an obvious thing not to do whilst under the influence of the mother diviner.

Take in as much smoke as is possible and hold it for as long as possible. The smoke will be very dense and acts like a very good expectorant if one lets it. Suppress the urges to expectorate and they will pass once the effects become prominent.

Student recently bought a bag of Salvia and he was wondering should it all be smoked at once? or can the bag be split into two doses?

It depends on so many things.
How much there is, how strong it is, what level one wants to get to, what method one will use to smoke it, whether one will have a sitter present.....

What ever happens,be damn careful it can be extremely powerful and know what one is doing.

Bong from SWIM's experience. SWIM took a big old lungful and held it in 10 seconds or so then exhaled. He felt very strange after but he was enjoying it. He then did the stupid thing and repeated the same amount in the same manner immediately after. This time it became very awkward and unenjoyable for SWIM.

A bong with ice and water, a full bowl of salvia, and a steady circular motion around the bowl with a lighter (swims honestly never found a difference in trips between using a torch lighter and a bic)

Generally swim inhales until the whole tp layer of salvia is lit, then continues ripping without a flame over it and uses the embers of the salvia above to light the salvia below. If that makes sense. The smoke is generally extremely harsh when flame is applies from the start of a rip to the end.

My question I guess was pretty vague. 'spose should have let you know it is like 20x about i gram or less maybe? Split into 2 or just one?

At least 2, probably more, depending on your experience. SWIM usually uses about .1 or .2g of 20x the times he has done it.

SWIM can get very powerful experiences with less than 0.1g of 20x.

The main thing about the technique is burning it properly inhaling it all quickly and holding it for long enough.

SWIM usually holds for 20-30s.

The smoking equipment itself should be whatever SWIY can use to best achieve those things.

This thread should be kept alive, for new people to see how to smoke salvia. So far I have seen some many people thinking they'll get anything out of it using only a pipe or roll up time and time again.

The active chemical in salvia divinorum has a minimum activation energy of around 1000 degrees Celsius. Meaning the hit you get from a lighter will not be as good as the smoke produced at higher temperatures. SWIM also recommends keeping the flame in the bowl for the entire hit.
