SWIM was wondering any SWIYs have had any success reducing the amount of sleep needed / feeling more energized by the same amount of sleep via the use of nootropics or supplements.
SWIM tends to sleep 10-11 hours a night on average to feel fully rested. He wants to bring that down to 7-8 hrs/night. SWIM is not really looking for stimulants like Adderall or Modafinil. Not that he isn't interested in this substances and believe they would be beneficial to his condition, but he cannot obtain scheduled substances. And he's really rather looking for something that just makes him feel rested on less sleep. He's tried melatonin and had mixed results, but due to his inexperience with nootropics in general, he was wondering if there were any out there that seemed to help with this. |

Re: Nootropics for Sleeping Less/More Efficiently
i'm in the same position. if i get less than 11 hours, i feel like i need extra sleep.
one day last month, i woke up after 6-7 hours feeling very rested. i was amazed by how great and energized i felt. it could be a fluke, but the evening before i had piracetam + choline bitartrate. the same thing hasn't happened with piracetam alone, and i took a good amount of choline. i'm going to experiment taking choline alone when the shipment comes in, and see if my current suspicion that choline could do this for me is valid. |

Re: Nootropics for Sleeping Less/More Efficiently
While SWIY's reason for not getting Modafinil due to legal issues is valid, SWIM wants you to know that Modafinil is NOT a stimulant. SWIM does not experience a high with 100-200mg of Modafinil and only knows that it is working because SWIM is able to get maybe 4-5 hours of sleep, take a Modafinil the next morning, and feel wide awake for 24+ hours. Without Modafinil SWIM would feel tired just hours after waking up from 7-9 hours of sleep and would need to take a midday nap.
Modafinil sounds exactly like the thing SWIY two need. |

Re: Nootropics for Sleeping Less/More Efficiently
Swim needs around 9.5-10.5 hours of sleep a night; same boat as you both. He's used piracetam for a few months last year and honestly didn't improve any kind of improvement, mentally or in terms of sleeping. He would love to find a 'sleep less' drug.
Also nigonks, those swiy's (as well as swim also) cannot obtain scheduled substances. |

Re: Nootropics for Sleeping Less/More Efficiently
Some updates from SWIM.
SWIM actually ordered some Adrafinil, which primarily metabolizes into Modafinil. It's unscheduled in the US. SWIM has read mixed reports with regards to its efficacy, but when his shipment comes in the mail he will try it up and keep everyone updated. SWIM's sleeping patterns have changed a lot since he returned to college (second year). Basically, he's been sleeping 2-8 hrs/night, averaging around 4-6 hrs/night. He notices that 8 hours of sleep feels more refreshing than before. He has read around that the body can used to a certain amount of sleep. |

Re: Nootropics for Sleeping Less/More Efficiently
Hey guys. ive been doing some experimentation with this intention recently and there is alot of information on stuff like this around...
im currently on a sleeping schedule which means i only need to sleep 2 hours per 24 hours and i feel more energised than i felt before. the only problems is that its really really strict. i need to get exactly 20 mins of sleep every 4 hours. however back on the topic of drugs which help you get more efficient sleep. i found a homeopathic thingy that i can only find at one pharmacy in the place where i live because apparently the drug itself is illegal for some reason. its called melatonin. i find it helps soooooooo much with living with less sleep because its a hormone that your brain produces naturally during sleep and hence if you dont get very much sleep it helps to be taking this to help your body with its supply of melatonin. only problem is that if i have mor than 2 per 12 hours i feel like ive been sleeping for 2 weeks. |

Re: Nootropics for Sleeping Less/More Efficiently
melatonin illegal? what? where do you live?
i haven't had the same experience with it. it helps me fall asleep, but doesn't change my sleep requirements. |
