An overview of ecstasy ingredients
Even though MDMA is the desired ecstasy ingredient, this is often not the active ingredient in ecstasy. So what are people getting then?
There are several ecstasy analysis projects around the world.* It would be good to create a summary of what compounds have been found in ecstasy, what amount and how prevalent that compound is or was. What do you think? Are there people that are interested in putting some hours in the creation of an overview? * I do not mean sites which list marquis test. Those are irrelevant to this thread, because they can not show true contents of a pill. Please do not post about that. |

Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
Not sure what format you are looking for - so consider this a work in progress
![]() This info is courtesy of Erowid and their sister arm Ecstasydata . It is a revies of DEA testing as published in the DEA's bulletein "the Microgram" over the 2008- 2009 period. A few notes: The (#) before the chemicals is the number of (unique) pills tested with that result. By unique I mean from a particular submission. Some infact appear to be the same pills, but seized in different parts of the country. And one can not definitively say they are the same pill from same batch/source- merely that the have a similiar appearance. Some pills have a (#) after some of the chemicals. This is a rough ratio of the chemicals to each other in that particular pill. (of course- if the # is followed by a mg that would indicate it was the weight of the substance not the ratio). I should also note there is 1 entry where the mg appears to have been left off- though it could in theory be a ratio- I noted it with a ? ) All test were listed as GC/MS Quote:
Also worth noting they have data going back to 1996 - mostly from user submission of tablets for testing (I think) already compiled into data- can be found here: http://ecstasydata.org/datastats.php...mary&percent=1 |

Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
Illicit dosage forms containing mCPP
In challenge tests of the serotonin system in psychiatry, mCPP is almost always used orally with doses typically up to 0.75 mg/kg, i.e. up to about 50mg for a 70kg person (Tancer and Johanson, 2001, 2003; Gijsman et al., 1998). Illicit mCPP is normally consumed orally, but some was seen in powdered form, so there is the possibility that it could also be snorted or injected. The amount of mCPP in illicit tablets was variable, and some contained other drugs as well. Nevertheless, the amounts of mCPP found in illicit tablets were broadly comparable to those used in clinical investigations. For example, of 16 samples quantified by the Dutch DIMS in 2004 and 2005, two contained 8mg mCPP or less and the remainder contained 22–46mg. Later samples examined by the DIMS in 2005 contained substantially higher amounts of mCPP (62, 72 and 80mg). The majority of the samples were tablets bought as "Ecstasy", but two samples were powders sold as cocaine. |

Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
Some recent seizures showed pills that allegedly contain a total of 150mg of
four different piperazines: mCPP, pCPP, MeOPP and TFMPP. In 2 out of the 12 Hungarian seizures, tablets contained both mCPP and MDMA. In the UK, MDMA was also found mixed with mCPP in tablets, where it was estimated that the two substances were present in almost equal amounts. In the Netherlands, one sample of mCPP contained 1% cocaine. In France, the tablets collected were bought as Ecstasy or MDMA (six cases), artisanal Ecstasy (one case), one case involving MDMA mixed with either LSD or ketamine, and MDEA (one case). |

Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
There are various drug testing organisations like DIMS (Netherlands), Energy Control (Spain), ChEcK iT! (Austria). It would be good if we can get their testing results and combine them.

Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
There are some recent results from Energy Control:
Here is what analyses were able to reveal as substances in pills sold as Ecstasy. 20/06/09 - Castellon and Madrid: mCPP 20/06/09 - Barcelona: MDMA Barcelona: mCPP Barcelona: mCPP and Metoclopramide (Metoclopramide is used to relieve nausea and vomiting). 03/07/09 - Zaragoza: mCPP and Metoclopramide Granada: mCPP and Metoclopramide By seeing a substance like the Metoclopramide is the sign that the producers want to avoid some most common negative effects of the mCPP, nausea and vomiting. |

Is metoclopramide dangerous in high doses? I know people who would eat 10-15 pills in a night...

Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
That's a very good question, it's necessary to know what is the degree of toxicity and the possible interactions with the other substances, without forgetting the alcohol.

Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
Here is a recent publicationof the French government:
Is 4-methylephedrone, an “Ecstasy” of the twenty first century? A capsule, presumed to contain ecstasy, was seized in 2007 and transmitted to the laboratory of the IRCGN for confirmation purpose. However, after chemical analysis using ion mobility spectrometry, gas chromatography-electron ionisation mass spectrometry (GC-EI/MS), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), and liquid chromatography, electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (LC-ESI/MS), the substance was identified as 4-methylephedrone and not as ecstasy. This case was an example of the development of new addictive drugs, specifically designed to by-pass current legislation, and generally called `designer drugs'. Dr. Satan added 29 Minutes and 47 Seconds later... There is some info from the German site "partypack" 2009: July - PMA - mCPP, Domperidone + Methamphetamine - mCPP, Domperidone - 4-Fluoramphetamine - mCPP, Caffeine, Domperidone Also some info from the Austrian ChEck iT! 2009: August - mCPP, Metoclopramide March - Methamphetamine - Methamphetamine, Caffeine - TFMPP - Fenproporex Fenproporex is is a stimulant drug which is used as an appetite suppressant. It is an amphetamine derivative which was developed in the 1960s and used for the treatment of obesity. Domperidone is a dopamine antagonist used as an antiemetic for the short term treatment of nausea and vomiting of various etiologies. [top]Last edited by Dr. Satan; 29-09-2009 at 11:28. Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
Some results from the Swiss group Eve&Rave. Results are from 2008-2009. Out of 64 + pills tested 41 contained piperazines as their main ingredient. 4 would be considered bunk, 4 contained 4FMA as the main ingredient and 7+ were actually 2-cb. Which leaves 8 "ecstasy" pills...
first- some notes on the adulterants. Domperidoneis an antidopaminergic drug, developed by Janssen Pharmaceutica, and used orally, rectally or intravenously, generally to suppress nausea and vomiting. Metoclopramide is an antiemetic and gastroprokinetic agent. Thus it is primarily used to treat nausea and vomiting Buflomedil is a vasoactive drug used to treat claudication or the symptoms of peripheral arterial disease. It is currently not approved by the FDA for use in the United States. the piperazine pills Quote:
the bunk pills Quote:
the "good" pills Quote:
some new results courtesy ecstasydata. These were user submitted pills. Testing via GC/MS numbers in parentheses() indicatee number of different pills with those same results. Numbers after the chemicals represent the ratios they existed in those pills. A couple samples the ratio was not quantified- no explanation given Quote:

Am working on wrapping this up and getting it into a more usable form.
Can anyone get me the Dutch results, or know whether they are even publically available? Can't find them but it may be a simple language barrier... very distracted in real life atm so it will be a week or two before I have this wrapped up. |

Of these only 2 contained any MDMA. 29 pills contained amphetamine/methamphetamine 3 pills were "research chemicals", although it is unclear whether they were actually represented as ecstasy. Only one pill was piperazines- highly suprising considering the amount of piperazine pills exported from canada. A number of the pills appeared to be from the same press yet contained wildly different ingredients. 7 of the 48 pills were unique shapes- not the typical round pill. I am still trying to find the results from the larger, canada wide study that should contain another ~320~ pills. terrapinzflyer added 109 Minutes and 9 Seconds later... and the full results from canada, including the quebec results above. Also from june 2007-july 2008. Note that, especially towards the end, there are a number of prescription drugs. Re: An overview of ecstasy ingredients
Ok- this should wrap up the lab test test results. Will now work on getting this data into a more user friendly format.
A couple more results from Ecstasydata- a joint project of erowid/dancesafe/MAPS (1) mdma:5 caffeine:1 (1) MDMA:20 Procaine:10 caffeine:1 these results are from a swiss outreach program (saferparty?) offering lab testing of pills.
