A friend of mine lives in bangkok and wants to quit the dragon. He is a daily heroin user and has heard that methadone is available from Government run drug rehab clinics. The problem is that he cannot find an address of such a clinic in the rehab section of DF. He has searched on Google, and has only found mentions of such establishments but so far no actual links or addresses. He is not Thai and has a family which does not know about his addiction. Swim has found out that it can be bought from such a clinic through the internet, and is desperate to stop. He has asked some small clinics and hospitals in bangkok, but no help given. Due to stigma or lack of thai language, im not sure. Does anyone know of a clinic. Might be a long shot, but if you could help with a link or a address, swim would be ever greatful.
Do he is a real Citizen of Thailand with a proper Visa and Residence?
If so he can call maybe here:

Edit: We here in Tokyo/ Nippon have something called "English Lifeline" i am nearly sure they have also in Krung Thep (Bangkok)
There Swiny can get a help from a Translator!

He does visa runs, so no, he does not have papers. Although swim heard from a post on here that it can be bought over the counter. Thanks for all the input, swim will keep looking and try to find a clinic. Failing that, swim could always bring him some from the uk, but swim really does not want to do that, thai jail is something swim is not that keen on! Thanks again. Will get swim to ring that contact

Thanks for the info, swim has came across this facility, i think its a great idea, but swim has to be around his family, and is trying to beat the dragon without others knowing, not the best idea, but swim thinks it can be done! Thanks for the link again. DF members are a helpful lot!

Methadone is available in Thailand, see: http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&sou...mLgbXzzgBhV50A, but no details seem to be available. This is very odd... doing a google search for Thailand + Methadone brings up lots of circumstantial evidence of scripts being available there, just no specific details. I even found a quote saying "there are tons of detoxification programs, methadone programs, therapeutic communities" but no links to who/ where they are..!
Aha! Found something, although this is a few years old:
"While Thailand’s drug user network, the Thai Drug Users’ Network (TDN) won an important grant from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM) in 2003 for a harm reduction and HIV prevention initiative for IDU, the government and other NGOs have been slow to heed the call for drug users’ right to health and other rights. There is no harm reduction policy in Thailand, no government-sanctioned needle exchange program, no methadone maintenance policy in action (methadone programs are punitive and high-threshold; there are no “take-homes” and the goal is typically detox), etc. The only free methadone is in Bangkok at the 19 clinics of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, but one must become a registered client and undergo assessment to be considered for eligibility, as with all methadone clinics...There are several peer-run drop-in centers in Bangkok, including one run by TDN."
