N2O: why call it Hippy Crack?

Swim and his friends were wondering why N2O was called "Hippy Crack". Swim looked internet to find where it was comming from but couldn't find it. He thinks it may have a link with cracker, which is used to crack the whipped cream chargers... But swim also think that it may have a relation with the actual crack associated with cocaine...

If you guys know where Hippy Crack comes from please enlight swim and his friends...

Re: N2O: why call it Hippy Crack?

In swim's opinion it's because it's cheap and people do it at a lot of music festivals.

Naturally hippies show up at a lot of festivals.

So in swim's opinion someone called it hippie crack because hippies constantly will buy it, just like a crackhead.

Re: N2O: why call it Hippy Crack?

SWIM speculates it's because of the short duration and intensity similar to crack (although the effects are not at all similar). N2O is also much more psychedelic than crack, and as most people know, hippies love psychedelics.

Caltrain is right. It lasts only a very brief period of time, and the euphoria is quite pronounced. It's the psychedelic 'analog' of crack.

Re: N2O: why call it Hippy Crack?

SWIM loves music and so she also loves N2O. They go so well together. N2O tends to make some folks grubby and stingy. Ever see folks at a party where there is N2O. Some of them display some very "crack head" behavior. SWIM had a couple of friends that would hide the chargers from each other to insure that they got more than anyone else. After they left she and her husband would find chargers hidden all over the place because their friends would forget where they hid them. Funny but so so sad. She also noticed the term Hippy Crack has the same cadence as the Wa Wa sound.

Re: N2O: why call it Hippy Crack?

They call it "hippy crack" because like crack, one will keep purchasing it, to chase the high. If you've ever seen what happens around a tank, people will swarm like crackheads, trying to get freebies and spending all their money on chasing the high.

Re: N2O: why call it Hippy Crack?

Go to a "hippie music" (all depends on your local definition) concert/festival. Listen for the hiss of the nearest tank, follow that sound and observe the behavior of the mob of people around it. SWIY won't wonder no mo'. Hypothetically, bringing a full tank to one of these things might be a good way to make a pile of money quickly. Monkey wouldn't know about that though.

Well SWIMs friend used to be a crack addict for a 10 years or so and he says it you wonder what crack feels like N2O reminds him of it. SWIM hasn't tried crack so he can't say the two feel the same.

It doesn't feel like crack at all. The similarity is that the high is very short, and typically users will continue dosing repeatedly until they run out of the drug. It's sort of a "joke name."

*edit* BTW, Ed has seen kif (loose cannabis resin glands) being referred to as "hippy crack" on several occasions, as well.
