When pipes or bongs are going around it's one hit then pass.


With joints whoever rolls it (almost alwaysme)decides how manythen passes it on (always to the left)its usually between 3-6 puffs then pass. Idon't get that whole one hit pass shit, you need to kick back and chill when yougota joint take your time and just smoke it up a treat!


With blunts its 3 fantastically delicious hits, then saldly you have to pass it.

Ehh, why make rules? Cmon, if you followed the rules, you would not be smoking the shit! Anyways, people here are willing to share, three hits and then pass is usually how it goes with j's and blunts. Bongs and pipes are usually hit once and passed depending on the harshness.

Our rule is four take pass or five/six if there are only two or three of you, but then I usually compensate for large groups by rolling bigger spliffs.


I think it isgood etiquette to complement the roller on a good joint or good weed if that is the case. If it is a bad joint don't say anything unless it's really shit or below the roller's usual standard and you know him/her well enough to take the piss.

we usually do 2 hit pass on everything (blunt, joint, pipe, bong).
gotta pass to the left. if your not all facing eachother, such as in a
car, we usually go counter clockwise. in the case of a joint or blunt
when it gets really small you keep it going around til it gets to the
person who supplied the weed, or if you all had money on it, when it
gets to the roller, and you let them decide whether its done, if it is,
they get the last hit.

Joint = 3 hits each at the start. Then when the joint gets small its 1 hits each then pass.

Pipe = 2 Hits each.

Bong = 1 hit each. And i mean one full tube each. Thats like the equivilent of 2 big joint hits.

Yeah, here there are no rules. But me and my friends tend to take 2 hits
of whatever it is then pass. Except with spots, then it's one spot and

What do you say to a person like that, depending on how high i am i might say "Hey fucker pass it" or "don't be a dick" What do you do?

Also when a joint is first lit and the person is taking several hits dont be a dick and call him on it there lots of paper to get through so it takes time

Agreed. SWIM finds that when one of his friends hangs on to a joint for ages, eventually all the other people in the circle have just stopped talking and are staring at the j. That's when you know you've been a greedy guts.

Where I'm from it is generally one hit then pass, except with blunts. But it also depends on how many people and how big of a joint. Withfewpeople we may tend to puff on a joint twice. Bong is always one hit and pass. Always pass to the left. Whoever rolls a joint sparks it, no matter who's weed it is.

Our rules are as follows (though not taken very seriously):

Joint: The builder sparks it up and takes a decent smoke as a reward for building. If it's his/her gear, it's passed on and depending on how many people are smoking, it's either smoked in portions and the last in line get's the last of the joint, or if there are lots of people smoking, the joint is sent around in two tokes.

Pipes and bongs are sent around one hit at a time.

Here is a question/rule.

When the bowl goes around and stops on anyone else but the man with the bud. Do you guys give it back to the 'bud man' and let him reload and smoke or reload and give back to the next person?

Personally I think you should pass it to the person who didn't get a hit. I'm seeing alot of 'bud man gets the first toke'. When it comes down to it I'm guessing its up to the 'bud man', but what do you all do? Do the rules change from here?

Smoking Etiquette

1) The person who rolls the joint (no matter whose weed it is) gets to spark up the joint and get first hits...

2) If someone rolls a nice joint, its good to give the person a complement on his rolling skills...

3) If someone starts bogarting the bowl and starts using the excuse that its okay for him to bogart it since it's his weed, this is definitely not cool. The punishment depends on the quality of the weed and how much he put in. (If it was real crappy and he was real cheap with it, then you bug on the person and rag on him )

4) If someone is too palsy to light the bowl (due to being too stoned or the person is just a retard) then they must relinquish control of the lighter to someone more able to get it lit. <-- This does not mean the person who lights gets free hits... this privilege tends to get abused ("hey lemme light it for you...")

5) If someone is so much of a palsy that they blow into the bowl and blow all the shit on the floor, this person must be ragged on and the person can't smoke on the next round (unless it was his stuff)

6) If you smoke with someone in your house, you should let them eat some munchy food you may have lying around.. don't be cheap with your food if you have food...

7) Do not, while stoned and sucking nitrous oxide out of a balloon in the presence of two bongs abruptly decide to stand on your head, as you may topple over, spilling both bongs and getting bongwater all over the carpet.

8) If someone who's smoked asks for a sip of your soda, you must give him some.. (drymouth is not fun) Converse of the above: if you ask for a sip, don't take a large gulp.

9) If smoking from a bong or a joint, never put the whole thing in your mouth and get it all sopping wet.. its disgusting and it messes up the joint.

10) If your smoking from a bong and there's not enough in the bowl for a whole other hit, you should save the smoke in the chamber for the next person..(don't let go of the rushhold or 'carb' and take it all yourself)

11) Never bogart

12) Never bitch about someone else's weed being no good! If you don't like it don't smoke it!

13) If a friend gets you high sometime in the future you need to get that friend high.

14) Thou shalt not turn down a smoke.

15) Phrased in the form of a narrative: OK. My buddy and I are sitting around smoking the weed that I just scored. After flaming-up, and taking a few moderate puffs, I pass it on. The sounds that follow can only be described as vacuum-like. After a couple of huge, lung-busting tokes, the guy passes back the remnants of something that could have, at some point, been a joint. If it's not completely "canoed", then it's absolutely soaked. I not-so-subtly drop that old Cheech & Chong line "Hey man, can I wring it out for you?" He just looks at me.

16) I have noticed the following: After smoking-up, the odd "crass-monkey" will actually eat the stained, disgusting roach. This must be because they want that "extra bit" of oil, resin, or whatever's left on the paper. This situation can be compared to the patron of a good restaurant picking up his "as good as empty" plate and licking off the remaining morsels of food. Sure he got that little pool of gravy, but was it really worth it?

17) If you buy weed from a friend or a friend of a friend, it is polite to roll a joint, (a small one if you wish) and smoke with the person who sells you the stuff.

18) It is very impolite to hand someone an empty bowl, without notifying that person of it's possible cashed-ness. A proper warning would be 'Here ya go...I think it might be cashed.' The person who fills the bowl is given the opportunity to take the first hit. It doesn't matter who's bowl it is.

19) Always remember to thank a person who has gotten you high. I know it sounds silly, but I know people who never say thanks and it gets a little annoying.

20) The person who brought the bud picks the music.

21) When using a bong, don't slobber all over it.

22) Again, when using a bong, don't blow out the ashes, unless that's what the "homeowner" does.

23) Never go to someone's house expecting them to catch you a buzz. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule...

24) If you spill the bong, clean it up! (And don't forget to put water back in it!!)

25) When the roach gets too small, if someone has a problem with it, it is common courtesy here to put the roach in a bowl and finish it that way.. that way the people who don't mind burning their fingers don't get it all.

Thats not to mention that as the number of people smoking at once rises, the chances of the bong becoming history in a catastrophic accident also exponentially increase.

If having to constantly reload bowls is a problem, just use a larger one if possible.


Swim would rather just smoke a spliff, in all honesty. Its what he does alone, but it seems especially fitted to social smoking scenarios.

Generally swim doesn't have any problems with that. Everyone always asks how many hits to take and he just says "whatever, just pass when you feel like it" and it works out fine as people are smoking his bud and feel obliged to not smoke too much, or his closer friends will take however many hits but tend to stay around the same amount as the group average. Sometimes, with overly enthusiastic novice smokers, the joint takes too long to get passed. Swim usually ignores this as they will just get so high that they can't continue, at which point he gently reprimands them for overindulging previously. Occasionally he may remind someone that there are others who want to smoke too, but generally there is enough bud to go around that he doesn't feel any need to bother people unless they are blatantly being a dick about it.

If swiy wants to be a cheeky bastard he can choose an alternate route when someone gets into the habit of holding on to the joint for too long each roto. Say you are dedicating the next song (to be played) to the joint-hog, then put on Don't Bogart Me by The Fraternity of Man. The lyrics are clear enough that they should get the hint fairly soon. Flustered red cheeks may follow. Lesson hopefully learned.

thats standard, but the real rule is keeping it fair.

If one person takes 10 hits the next person gets 10 hits also.
If your smoking with someone who gets too high easily or it doesn't take that much for them, let them hang if they choose or ask them if they can handle it and then be polite and skip them in rotation, try not to rag and call them a bitch on it tho if its your friend lol.

Phaze usually smokes with the same people, so whoever lit the last bowl or blunt/joint it goes to the next person.

If using a bong/pipe with a friend, try phazes program out in the software section called hit timer 420. Its great for efficiency aswell as keeping everything fair at 1 hit a piece.
