Flashbacks

I have heard a lot of people talk about flashbacks from lsd, and heard only a couple reasons why. I'm not sure if they're right, one is that lsd is such an intense emotional experience that it can give you ptsd. the other one is that it's stored in your spine and that when you crack your back you have one. I'm more inclined to believe the first, but if anyone know's anything further on the subject it would be appriciated if you let me know

Re: Flashbacks

swim isn't quite sure why it happens but his GF gets pretty intense flashbacks from lack of sleep.

swim believe that there's this locked door in your brain that LSD opens for and once it opens the door it forgets to lock it so given the right circumstances your brain can "accidentally" open that door again, even if it's only a crack.

Re: Flashbacks

'flashback' is a word with alot of diffrent meanings to diffrent people. to the people using lsd it often means nothing but a wrong perception of a misunderstood substance bu the non users.

i have heard of a storie were a guy got so scared of an escape sign during his trips that now everytime he sees one he starts sweating and feeling panic... yes, this can happend with a kid that is afraid of chickens to, every time he sees a bird he feels panick... nothing abnormal about that...

this has nothing to do with lsd being stored in the spine or whatever people find out to start a rumour to make people think bad about psychedelic drugs...

flashabcks are not how people beleive them to be, like suddenly the room starts breathing and visuals re-appear, as far as i know this does not exist at all...

i do believe that some bad memory from a trip - or even a good memorie can evoke a feeling associated with that trip... just like any other experience tht made an impression...

if this happens, feelings come back or fear returns, it is a good moment to see if you really should have fear and grow up and leave behind what you don't need in your life.

edit:

after reading the above post i remeber that i had a period when i was sitting on the toilet the walls would change color sightly and i would get a trippy feeling, but never have i thought of a flashback from lsd, the human mind can evoke so many staes even without drugs, when acid is over it doesn't effect you, if something happens it's your own mind doing it... and this is a very diffrent thing than acid in your spine evoking another experience. wich i don't believe at all

Re: Flashbacks

SWIM thinks Silence_Inc's answer is very good. Any scientist who has ever studied the spinal cord can tell you that there isn't some secret mechanism for storing LSD in the spine. It's an urban legend, plain and simple. SWIM has taken LSD over 75 times and has never had a flashback. SWIM has heard one or two stories of people having very mild motion in their visual field after repeated tripping, but no widescale hallucinations or anything.

Re: Flashbacks

The PSTD suggestion is by far the best explanation. Something like LSD will be something you will remember for the rest of your life. And you remember the most intense or traumatic parts of it, whether it be good or bad. That along with a nostalgic memory could have someone experience a "flashback".

The term flashback itself is pretty vague. It can range from a body sensation that you have experienced while on LSD, to a full blown hallucination. But swim's never heard of anyone (and knows people that trip quite regularly) and never heard people traveling into a different universe from a flashback. Swim's experience few, but they're generally short, a couple seconds at most, and no one would even notice. The hallucinations though could be HPPD (hallucinogenic perception persistence disorder) which very little is known about this phenomenon

Re: Flashbacks

SWIM not sure if this counts or if it's related to what SWIcrash is talking about, but SWIM has had it happen a couple of times where he will sometimes get these "stars" / squiggly things spinning around that sorta appear not in the direct line of vision , but off above the forehead field of vision and off to the side. It looks like about 50 - 100 objects spinning LSD like visuals.

Maybe occurred less than 5 times since around 1997 from when SWIM 1st took LSD.

SWIM will get them sometimes from coughing "really" hard. If it's been related to LSD it's never been a scary feeling or instant nervousness associated with it. Also, it's always been the stars / squiggly thing that has appeared in the eye sight, but not like another object in the room such as wall would start to move.

SWIM has other friends have took many doeses and never said anything like "hey, SWIM had this horrbile flashback..." or it was bad enough to mention to another SWIMMER.

SWIM had one friend who didn't like the incense when tripping and during one trip it was burning and it caused the friend to nose to become congested. Any time after SWIMS friend tripped, they would have a congested nose even if the incense wasn't burning.

Re: Flashbacks

SWIM has had more than a few flashbacks, but their nature tends to change depending on how long it's been since he tripped. For example, in the immediate weeks following a trip, SWIM will have visual flashbacks, which is to say that he'll see rippling surfaces, blurring colors and things "breathing". Once, SWIM saw the shirt of a friend become neon-type bright, as if a blacklight was being shined upon it.

The other type of flashback that SWIM experiences persists long, long after a trip, even indefinitely. It's more of a mental flashback, really; he'll hear a phrase or have a thought, and that thought is completely absurd, the same way the mind finds mundane things absurd while on acid. This never happened before SWIM did LSD, and if it did, he really has no recollection.

Re: Flashbacks

Swim says that while he has nothing to add to how or why they happen he can verify that they do occur.
Once at work a while ago Swim was about to make a cup of coffee and suddenly everything became slightly brighter and more vivid and his hands looked wrong in the way they do while tripping, there was very very mild movement to some surfaces, after a couple seconds this all subsided and Swim went on with his day.
Swim had not tripped for well over two months when this occurred.

Re: Flashbacks

SWIM gets flashbacks every now and then, it's usually a quick few minutes of feeling a little different but by no means is it a re-trip. Sometimes it can be a good feeling, sometimes it can be a bad feeling(mostly good in swim's case), it really all depends on what triggered the flashback and of course set and setting. It's a fairly rare occurrence but SWIM gets them mostly when he is alone relaxing.

It's very rare for SWIM to have a bad flashback but when he does he experiences anxiety and trouble breathing, this normally doesn't last longer than 15 minutes.
