LSD and GAD
Hi, This is my first post here, I am a 19 year old male, sometimes known as Nugget.
I have GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) I am currently on a moderate dose of a anti-anxiety Med (BusPar) and currently increasing it with the help of my psychiatrist. I have taken LSD twice in my life, the first time 100mg (along with weed and a lot of vodka) at a party. The second trip this past Halloween, 200-300mg (along with a minor amount of weed) I noticed that on both occasions when I dropped acid, I felt very different from my normal state of mind, kinda of like being high, but still being able to function at a high level. But instead of being giggly or extremely delusional like other people, I became paranoid, more fearful of everything. its like the LSD enhanced my GAD symptoms. I had to expend a lot of mental control to stop myself from breaking down and having a panic attack HERES THE IMPORTANT PART. After I had recovered from my trip, I noticed a minor drop in my overall GAD symptoms. Could this be related to the LSD? Or maybe its just my brain adjusting to my new medication? (BusPar) Any thoughts or Opinions/Advice from experienced Trippers would be greatly appreciated. -Nugget loves you all |

Re: LSD and GAD
Dont self incriminate here pal use SWIM (someone who isnt me) also 100 mg is a hell of a lot of acid dont you mean 100mcg (cant find that funny u shaped letter that means micro) Swim had GAD at one point and stopped using all drugs (even coffee) because of panic attacks 3 years ago but was also going through some stressfull times at home. He found that the best way to rid himself of this condition was to excercise a bit more and keep a bit more generally active as when he was doing very little in life thats when he started having bad thoughts(not suicidal but just leting things get to him) this way triggering the panic attacks He found hobbies which required concentration (djing, computer games) were the way to get over this (as advised by a friend) in the last 3 years he has had maybe 1 panic attack that he can think of but this was after hard drugs (coke) and not much sleep, my advice is to stop thinking about it and maybe take a break from drugs till it subsides. Swim was even prescribed beta blockers by his doctor after discussing the panic attacks but his doctor just gave him a script and didnt tell him what the problem was (cunt) , but after reading up on what beta blockers do and the fact that it would probably lead on to constant reliance on betablockers he decided not to take them and make some lifestyle changes. This worked for swim he hopes it works for you too

Re: LSD and GAD
hey Nugget,
first of all, all experiences happend to someone you know called, SWIM (someone who isn't me) (read the rules about selfincrimination) than, i am no scientist or have any medical background so my answer is from personal point of view. there is a huge possibility that your friend's GAD lowered because of the use of lsd. why? i just saw a documentary on LSD wich can be found on the forum. it is called 'inside LSD' ... here at one point a doctor is talking about the fact that LSD and hallucinogenics stop the brain from filtering all the bits entering the brain, the pieces of information that come into your field of experience, in the old and normal way... and help make way for a diffrent way of percieving the world. his example was that when something flies by you really fast, a black fast moving thing, you get scared, it is a normal reaction ... but if you know it is a bird the panic subsides. So your reaction is pre-made, it is like a reaction from a past experience or for safty for the body... he said that LSD lowered this filtering process or even shut it off so that your pre-made anxiety isn't triggered. so, if i conclude with this docter insight... your friend's filtering system, constructed from past experiences and ideas about the world, is lowered because of his use of lsd... and so he percieves the world in a fresher way... not being lead to fear by past memory. He feels more open to the world because of this... so he doesn't experience GAD ... than on the fact that he experienced paranoia while tripping; well, that is highly possible because he took it at a party with alot of people and sound... lsd amplifies input so being at a busy place can feel very hectic. but neverheless your friend made it through... he even made it through while he is diagnosed with GAD ... i believe your friend has proven something to himself. that this GAD thing isn't stronger than himself... he made it so his mind must be stronger than this. i also believe that your friend shouldn't take lsd in crowded place but in a safe home with very good calm and centered friends. good easy enjoyable music and not to much talking. and maybe this will even bring your friend to deeper insights about why he expereinces GAD. SWIM also suffered from mental issues when younger. and he believes that psychedelics helped him get insights... his discovery was that he isn't the mind, so he isn't the fear in the mind, and if he directs his attention to his heart with pure intent, he can overcome anything, fear, sadness, ... meditation is the key. |
