The California Department of Justice's Campaign Against Marijuana Planting (CAMP) program has already smashed the previous single-season record of seized plants by 378,685, the attorney general's office reported. When looking at the street value of marijuana, the department estimated the drugs were worth about $4 billion. Through CAMP raids 405 marijuana gardens have been shut down, the office reported. A total of 22 arrests have been made in connection with the raids, and 58 weapons were seized. Last year 757 gardens were closed, 41 arrests were made, and 53 weapons were collected though CAMP, the office reported. "CAMP is a leader in illegal marijuana eradication because of outstanding interagency cooperation, the leadership and support of the California Department of Justice and the dedication and effort of the men and women involved in the CAMP program," CAMP Cmdr. Michael Johnson said in a statement. CAMP is a combination of local police and sheriff's departments that join forces with statewide agencies like the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service, the office reported. The 22-year-old CAMP program has led to the destruction of more than 4 million plants with an estimated net worth of $16 billion, the office reported. Link</TD></TR></T></TABLE> |
