This question is aimed at Alprazolam
users in the UK, not for any preference of opinion but simply for advice.
contacted his doctor just yesterday to refill his Alprazolam, which he is supposed to pick up tomorrow.
Now, usually, SWIM takes the 0.5mg version but usually takes 2 to calm anxiety, which is so severe he usually finds himself unable to walk to the supermarket without having a panic attack
on the way and has to stop 2 or 3 times to close his eyes and take 2 of these until the effects kick in and feels able to finish the journey. Being away from his 'safe place', which is home (even tho anxiety and panic attacks can kick in there too) is a real problem.
He's been in hospital many times with oesophagal vsrices(sp?) and was extremely lucky to make it out last time after his lungs failed on ventilator and had to have 18pints of fresh blood passed through.
Now, Alprazolam is the only thing he's found that makes him able to function normally. He only wanted me to inform you of his previous problems so swiy could fully understand this wasn't for recreational use.
Now, the main problem, while taking 2 of the .5mg tablets work, his doctor will only prescribe them per 2 weeks, and taking them 2 at a time means 1 weeks worth. SWIM has a high tolerance to drugs
( to the point of endoscopy injections, even at their highest dose having no effect whatsoever).
So SWIM asked for a higher dosage, hoping to use 1mg at a time or breaking a 2mg in half.
What SWIM was told, however, was that the 1mg and 2mg tablets are no longer produced. This seems beyond illogical as SWIM recalls numerous accounts of 1mg and 2mg tablets prescribed to other people.
So my question to people in the UK, is this doctor simply wrong, are they no longer prescribed in these doses in the UK, or is SWIM missing something?

EDIT: Sorry I can't find the edit button, if a mod could please merge my edit.
SWIM had all these problems before because he was stupid enough to use copious amounts of alcohol
to rid himself of the anxiety and panic attacks, and is slowly but surely getting rid of his alcohol dependence.
Quick note: yes he does still drink small amounts sometimes (Reference my last post about SWIM) but is hoping to get completely clean.
