The experience of stillness is mentioned many times with relation to the mystical/psychedelic experience. People report of actually HEARING silence as a sound. Silence as a soundis also part of the yoga system.
Some examples:
The famous AUM mantra is said to have 3 and a half sounds: A, U, M and the silence that comes afterwards (the kundalini energy is said to spiral 3.5 times around the base of the spine, reflecting this).
"Stillness Speaks" by eckhart tolle is all about how to experience the "stillness behind words". it is the sequal to his classic "the power of now", the most notable spiritual book of the 90s.
"Yoga - the spirit and practice of moving into stillness" is a highly regarded yoga book (

when i did a 10-day vipassana retreat (
www.dhamma.org) i felt, at around the 8th day, ROARING silence. i wish i could recreate the experience - although i think some fragment of it remained with me since, some sensitivity that enables satori experiences (a glimpse of stillness) tooccur to me.
i had not had this experience while on acid. perhaps the speedy effect it hasrevved up my thoughts too much for this to happen.
please share your own stillness experience, or thoughts regarding this...
peace
