GBL + GHB - Taste differences?

SWIM was there, back in the day, of legal GHB and GHB hustling. SWIM, however, has been sober for a few years from hard drugs, and has recently begun networking again with his dog in the business of hard drugs. SWIM remembers both a difference in the number of caps to take concerning GHB and GBL, but SWIM also remembers a distinctive taste. To flatten out the question a bit better, does all GHB taste the same? GBL?

SWIM wants to also address that one taste SWIM sometimes recieves, somewhat of Nail polish. Now, SWIM isn't a total noob, and understands that extraction from nail polish is / was possible back in the day, but he wonders, is that plasticish taste coming from extraction, container, or the actual chemical of GHB / GBL?
Thank you for the feedback!

Re: GBL + GHB - Taste differences?

GHB tastes salty and GBL just tastes foul.
GBL is about 50% stronger though.

Re: GBL + GHB - Taste differences?

Stronger than what and in what respect?

NaGHB (the sodium salt of GHB) is usually dosed in grammes unless it has been diluted in water, whereupon it is dosed in g/ml, whereas GBL, being solely a liquid is dosed in ml. The traditional clubbing method of dosing NaGHB is by the "cap", an outrageously inaccurate method, especially if one does not know how many ml can go into the cap of the diluted NaGHB container.

This then leads to the biggest problem of all, what dilution might the liquid NaGHB actually be? 1g of NaGHB per 5ml has often been the norm but who is to say when the liquid is purchased from a third party?

A single ml of GBL is roughly equivalent to 1.6g of GHB but it needs to be diluted as GBL is a mucous membrane irritant. Plus there are numerous other problems associated with GBL ingestion on top of how to accurately dose such a small amount.

As for the "paintstripper drug that kills" storylines that like to talk about drain cleaner and industrial chemicals being ingested by "the kids", lets clarify this for the idiotic journalists out there:

Sodium Hydroxide, when mixed with Gamma-Butyrolactone in the correct manner, makes NaGHB, or Sodium GammaHydroxyButyrate.

With me so far?

There is no such thing as stable GHB outside of the body. It cannot maintain the molecular state required unless it is bound to a base, such as a salt (sodium). The binding to the salt makes it, pay attention now, entirely stable and safe.

Search for Xyrem (a medication for Narcoleptic patients to improve their sleep quality) and you will see references to Sodium Oxybate, which is also another name for NaGHB.

GBL is a Lactone, an organic solvent that has numerous uses in industry. It is a mild mucous membrane irritant but, other than that, it is not particularly dangerous. If ingested it converts in-vivo to GHB.

Sodium Hydroxide (Caustic Soda, Lye) is a base (alkali) salt used in many, many chemistry applications to create numerous substances. Yes it can also clean your drains of grease as, when mixed with water, it creates heat and is caustic. This does not mean that NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide) is simply drain cleaner, that is merely one possible use for it.

NaGHB makes most flavoured drinks taste weirdly saline and is not likely to be ingested without noticing it in the doses required to incapacitate somone, let alone administering a fatal dose. It is best taken in cold water.

GBL makes anything taste revolting. It is usually ingested for recreational use by simply diluting one or two ml in 500ml or more of cold water. The taste is still incredibly foul and chemical like.

Thank you! This was a great comparison between GBL and GHB. I appreciate that you included some of the chemistry.

Re: GBL + GHB - Taste differences?

Sodium GHB has a salty taste and potassium GHB (rarer) has a bitterish/penetrating licorice taste. I don't know about other salts (magnesium, calcium) vut they probably never pop up.

The gbl tastes like rubber tires and very chemical, while ghb tastes like seawater..Best way to down the chemical gbl taste is to mix it with oj because it helps youre throat from getting that burning sensation ..

The stuff that you are saying tastes like nail polish is probably gbl. Never heard of extracting anything from nail polish. Seems like a waste of time and money. Something a noob would consider maybe.

Now I'm really curious, as GHB is naturally found outside of the body (mammalian bodies according to what I read) in wines, fruit wines in particular, in certain beers and (some?) citruses. In what form it occurs in them then? As one of its salts too? Could anyone more proficient in chemistry clarify it to me?

It's not exactly true. Sure, even though taste is rather subjective thing, no doubt that the taste of "warm plastic" is not particularly delicious. However, Alf tells me that finding the right mixer solves the problem of the taste very effectively and that there are ways of making it not only nearly imperceptible but that the drink itself can be - imagine! - tasty...

Please ask Alf to relay some mixer recommendations. SWIM finds GBL to be tolerable with OJ, Fresca, etc. but the thought of it tasting good is a new concept

So do most people here think GBL is as safe as GHB? Assume the GBL is measured carefully and mixed with orange juice to avoid the irritant effect.

GHB tastes pretty good with (coca)cola in SWIM's experience

No. SWIM doesn't have much GHB experience however he has gone through 500ml (probably alot more) and he does get some organ/kidney aches when he uses it often. Sometimes liver pains, maybe heartburn (avoid cola, maybe helps)

GBL IS a solvent and that's no front for it's sale either.

SWIM has said it before, probably not a good idea. Maybe consider cooking a small amount of GHB up and if perfered make a nice batch of it.

SWIM wholeheartedly believes that GHB is better for you than GBL.
