Extracting Butalbital from Aspirin (ASA)

My Platypus is trying to isolate the butalbital from fiorinal pills (325mg aspirin, 50mg butalbital, 30mg codeine, 40mg caffeine). She can remove the codeine and caffeine with the cold water extraction method but to remove the aspirin from the butalbital seems a bit more complicated.

She found the extraction method for fioricet (wich contains APA instead of ASA) here but is not usable with aspirin as it also disolve in sodium hydroxide.

Can anybody give her a hint on the method to use to get those butalbital extracted ?

Thanks
