Insufflated talcum powder
Firstly, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, because it isn't actually about cocaine but the health risks of an adulterant. It isn't a "guess the adulterant" thread though, because that has been pretty much identified. Here goes:
SWIM's (stupid) friend, wanted to try cocaine, so he got some from a navy guy he new (almost the whole of the British Navy does coke BTW, and I think it's common in the other armed forces too), but he said he had 2 very large lines and nothing happened. He believes that it was just talcum powder. The next day SWIM's friend had some mild chest pains, a sore throat, slight nausea, back and shoulder aches and general symptoms of a cold (can't see how the latter symptoms are related, but he very rarely gets colds. The mild chest pains worry SWIM), but by the day after that (today) they had started to subside (but were still present) in the early afternoon. SWIM's friend is reluctant to see a doctor, as he says he is slowly getting better (with the lung clearance mechanism, I suppose that makes sense?). It is also likely that SWIM's friend swallowed a lot of powder, what with the drip, though it is the lungs that SWIM is most worried about.
SWIM looked on the internet, and found out some very alarming things about talcum powder (cancer causing, similar to asbestos), but all reports SWIM could find involved infants not adults and serious effects began in a matter of hours/immediately.
SWIM's friend gave SWIM the "cocaine" to examine, and it certainly appears to be talcum powder in appearance (it easily becomes very fine particles in the air), but SWIM has very little interest in cocaine and can't compare to anything else. SWIM knew that talcum powder is insoluble (though this will probably vary between brands, depending on contents other than talc), and that cocaine is soluble so SWIM has attempted a basic solubility test to see if there was any cocaine present at all. He mixed the "cocaine" with water - leaving it cloudy, and filtered a few times (though he couldn't completely remove all cloudyness, probably because of the fine-ness of the powder). Now SWIM is awaiting evaporation to see if anything is left (if there is anything wrong with this method, please tell me).
Basically, SWIM wants to know how common it is for cocaine to be cut with talcum powder, dangers (will SWIM's friend recover completely soon?), and experiences with cocaine cut with talcum powder. Thankyou.
