SWIM likes caffeen pills but not any of those workout diet pill concoctions (they have too many ingredients that make SWIM very anxious and nauseous!).

SWIM has had some success with Claritin-D 24-hour formula. She takes two in the morning and finds that physical tasks go much easier with a little help from pseudoephedrine. SWIM likes to drink Red Bull or iced lattes with her p-fed because SWIM is a closeted speed freak. Sometimes she is able to sleep at night and other times she is not.

SWIM has also successfully used the "Mega Green Tea" product that is supposedly for weight-loss. It has some energy boosters. The recommended dose is 1 pill; SWIM finds it more useful to take 3.

SWIM resorts to these silly "pick-me-ups" because she doesn't currently have access to anything better.

(Note: P-fed products must be purchased at the pharmacy counter. One is only allowed to purchase X amount of p-fed within X amount of time, so SWIM either takes a few days off or has a friend buy it for her.)

You say this as if ephedrine is illegal... It's pretty widely available.

Ephedrine is the active ingredient of the Ephedra plant, which is commonly sold as Ma Huang. It has remained untouched by the government because the FDA does not endorse supplements and therefore doesn't bear the responsibility for saying it is safe.

Prior to the legal nonsense, a common Ephedrine weight-loss cocktail was 20 mg Ephedrine + 25 mg Caffeine + 200 mg Aspirin (3 times per day). Some research indicates that Ephedrine alkaloids comprise approximately 10 percent of the standard Ephedra supplements, so one would probably need to take 200 mg Ephedra (Ma Huang) + 25 mg Caffeine + 200 mg Aspirin to reach that dose. If SWIM were going this route, she would take about 300 mg Ephedra with Red Bull (or Mega Green Tea supplements) and two baby aspirins totalling 162 mg (but SWIM prefers Pseudoephedrine, which is also an alkaloid of Ephedra).

There is also an OTC asthma medication called Bronkaid that contains 25 mg Ephedrine Sulfate. One could purchase 60 tablets at a popular online drugstore for about $12 plus shipping. SWIM has also heard that it is available at Wal-Mart and various other retail & grocery chain pharmacies, but has never checked and cannot verify this information. In addition to Ephedrine, Bronkaid also contains 400 mg Guaifenesin, an expectorant SWIM found to be utterly ineffective when she had bronchitis a few months ago. Please note that as is the case with OTC medications containing Pseudoephedrine, Bronkaid is subject to government oversight. One would have to request it at the pharmacy counter and show identification to purchase it. SWIM recommends calling pharmacies to see who carries it before doing the legwork (or ordering online).
