If one were an addict and to drink or smoke cannabis for a special occasion

If a person was an addict and were to drink?
I would like to get personal experience from people who were previously addicts and stopped using NA,AA or CA. And at some point in there recovery they decided to smoke pot or drink alcohol for just a special occasion. But after that night or the weekend of drinking with no negative consequence returned to sobriety. How did you do this.. how did you return to sobriety what made you decide to return. Did you work the steps before you decided to relapse? You can also tell me if you decided to use your drug of choice and were able to stop after a day or so.

swim has 6 months with no intention of using or drinking today.. but sometimes he thinks it would be nice to use marijuana or low doses of mescaline at a phil lesh show before he passes on.
