Recommended dose of 5htp?

SWIM wants to start taking 5htp after quitting doing Es. The packet doesn't have a recommended dose. Each tab is 50mg. How often should SWIM take 5htp and what is the recommended does.
Also do 5htp have side effects because SWIM took a tablet and fel panicky after(of course this could be in SWIMS head)
