Methadone + Difficulty Urinating
SWIM tried 30mg methadone one day, and then 20mg the next day. That second day, while SWIM was quite high, he noticed that he had trouble trying to urinate. SWIM shrugged it off and thought that it wouldn't bother him once the high was over. A few hours later, once SWIM had sobered up quite a bit, he was still unable to pee. He used all his abdomen muscles and still - nothing. SWIM began to panic a little, and he read online about urine retention being a serious issue that could cause kidney failure. SWIM was able to get a little out later that night, but the next morning he was still having trouble. SWIM decided to go to the Med Center to see what was up. The doctor examined his urine and said that there was some bacteria in it, which indicated that it might have been a Urinary Tract Infection but not a full-blown one. He advised that SWIM drink lots of water each day, and that helped a lot. Staying off the methadone also helped. The day after seeing the doctor, SWIM decided to try 25mg in hopes that it was only the UTI that caused the difficulty urinating, but unfortunately the trouble came back. Also, SWIM let his friend try 10mg of the methadone, and SWIM's friend experienced trouble trying to urinate, as well.
As of right now, SWIM thinks he's going to get rid of all his methadone due to this problem. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem? Does anyone know if there is a way to prevent this side-effect?? SWIM quite enjoys the high, but doesn't want to encounter this again. Any suggestions???
