Swim has used quite a bit of DXM, including several visits to the 4th plateau and one or two to Sigma. He's had frightening experiences at high does, including feeling like he was dying or going insane, but never freaked out or lost control.
Until, that is, he began experimenting with using cannabis with 3rd plateau doses.

Swim will can testify to the "unpleasant" part (he would add "extremely"). He wonders about the pharmacological interactions.
The first couple of times were fine, blissful even. Subsequent attempts (3 or 4) led to incredible dysphoria and feeling like he was dying for real. Standing and walking was damn near impossible; he had to struggle to keep from blacking out. His thirst was unquenchable. He found it difficult to urinate. He felt extremely light-headed. On one occasion, he woke up the next morning to find some blood vessels in his right eye had burst, leaving a big bloody spot.
These trials have been ugly enough to convince him never to mix high-dose DXM and cannabis again. Has anyone else had experiences like this?
Does anyone know of any reason why combining cannabis with DXM could be dangerous? He's always thought of cannabis as one of those drugs that is generally safe to combine with other things, but this combo feels toxic. Is it just pot paranoia mixed with dissociation, or could it actually be causing dangerously low blood pressure or something?
What dose of DXM did SWIY take? SWIM occasionally uses cannabis at lower (300mg) levels and finds himself very dissociated until the THC wears off and he can once again relax to just the DXM.
SWIM was wondering if SWIY takes any other stimulants in addition to DXM as it sounds like SWIY's blood pressure is definitely in a dangerous range (burst blood vessels?).
Swim generally takes between 700 and 1000mg of DXM. His preferred dose is around 10mg/kg. And not that often, anymore.
He's enjoyed mixing pot with DXM at lower levels, say below 600mg of dex.
He's not sure what to make of the redeye; his symptoms felt like low blood pressure. Perhaps he was drinking too much water to try and compensate?
(Ever mindful of dissociation and the possibility of water intoxication, he tends to mix a pinch of sea salt in with every third glass or so throughout the night.)
same thing happened to swim after reaching 4th on 1400mg for his first time, he was able to handle 3rd with weed but after a few bowls on 4th he just couldn't walk/talk/piss but he doesn't recall having trouble staying awake...yet he also doesn't remmember half the trip so who knows
swim thought it was just normal side affects for a dose that large so he gave up on the drug thinking the negative affects outweight the positive ones....but your post is getting swim all curious about dxm again
Swim would always mix large quantities of hashish with his DXM trips, and on a strong third plateau trip had an amazing experience that deteriorated into hell over time, with cannabis probably playing a role in the downfall. Swim was laying on a couch and couldn't move, was sweating profusely (he generally doesn't sweat much at all), experienced delirium and waves of nausea, his memory was crap, and he had a heavy hangover the next day. It was towards the end of his DXM experiences and the other lower dose sessions he had after that (accompanied by cannabis of course) had more unpleasurable side effects reminiscent of the past experience. Not sure if it was a one time occurrence or just something that developed after multiple uses of the combo.
Strange to hear all these negative reports of this combination. SWIM regularly doses around 1g of DXM and always smokes around 1-2 hours after ingestion. It makes the trip stronger, but has never produced any of the unpleasant side effects described in this thread.
I suspect that timing may be a factor as well. It could be that DXM and weed is bad, while DXO and weed is good.
Come to think of it, his pleasant experiences with this combination were those times when he smoked after 90 minutes or so...his bad experiences were those times when he smoked from the get-go, hoping the cannabis would alleviate the DXM nausea.
Maybe THC does something with the enzymes used to process DXM...?
It would be also interesting to find out if low-end psychoactive doses of DXM lower the excessive laughing & giggling caused by cannabis. Since DXM is currently tested (with success) as a treatment for pseudobulbar affect (laughing or crying with no apparent reason), this would be interesting to find out.
One time SWIM had an experience where he dosed up 360mgs of DXM, then around 2 and a half hours later he was feeling the effects, he was in a wood spot with people he does not know or hang out with usually, he smoked 2 hits of regular weed. About 10 seconds later he started going into a bad trip / anxiety attack in front of the whole group, it started with dysphoric feelings all over his body and shaking and twitching, the world spun around and the trip completely changed. This was very intense it lasted around 15-20minutes, it was a anxiety/panic attack, sucked a lot because of the dysphoric feelings, if only they were euphoric feelings(which I have felt before all over the body without the aide of weed, and they are VERY pleasent if your having a good trip!, especially when moving around and dancing!)
SWIM took 250 mg ish of DXM in syrup form, on an empty stomach. After 2 hours consuming the syrup SWIM smoked cannabis. Before smoking SWIM was effected was robo-walking, etc. Once SWIM was done smoking he felt REALLY high. SWIM had euphoric feelings, was laughing at absolutley nothing. Music was extremely vital SWIM feels and this would not be near as euphoric without it.
SWIM later laid done and closed his eyes well still listening to music, SWIM had saw some interesting things. SWIM saw a sky full of stars but with a red grid all across it. SWIM also saw an outline of a very big robin (the bird).
SWIM must say low dose of DXM and cannabis seem to very good combination. And if anything the laughing and giggling becomes worse.
SWIM has only combined the two perhaps thrice in his history but always felt it led to a pleasant (though quite intense) effect. The time dilation effects in particular went quite far, he could think faster than usual so he would have 5 minutes worth of thought and perception squeezed into one minute of realtime. This could have caused a bad trip if he had spent the trips with any others around he thinks, due to making it hard to relate but with only his self around he enjoyed it once he got over the strangeness.
I think it's accurate, but I might word it more strongly. Some might read that combining DXM and pot causes "very intense experiences" and think "Alright!!" when they should be thinking "Oh, shit!!"
Maybe add a sentence encouraging psychonauts to start with low doses of DXM when experimenting with this combo...I would probably throw the phrase "unspeakable horror" in there somewhere, as well.

This combination may result in very intense (often overwhelmingly so) experiences, especially when high doses of DXM are used. This is most likely not physically dangerous, but the risk of panic attacks and psychotic breaks increases. This combination should not be approached by persons that are inexperienced with either DXM or cannabis. It should be noted that combining cannabis with DXM to achieve a stronger experience is probably many times physically safer than taking a higher dose of DXM."

Looks good to me. I'm not sure words can even explain how unpleasant 800mg of DXM + a good dose of cannabis can be. After all, you're leaving the land of language for the realm of pure concept...

SWID almost always smokes from the minute he takes his first sip of the syrup. He has never noticed any negative effects from it. Faster onset of effects or maybe that's just the pot making it seem faster for him.
SWIM's highest dose mixed with cannabis was ~700mg. WOAH! you better be mentally strong is all Swim can say. Swim didnt HATE it, it wasnt UNPLEASANT, just utterly intense. Swim and his friend smoked two joints 5-10 min after dosing up on 650~700 mg of robo. When they came back, SWIm went on the computer to get some music while SWIM's friend got the strobe light. After 15-20 minutes SWIM's friend was danceing. And SIWM, not knowing how hr got there or when he left the computer, was not only dancing, but dancing the exact same move as his friend. In sync! like in a stupid musical. this was only the comeup! SWIM started to 'watch himself' dance! after that SWIM was gone and on the ground flying, talking to aliens, watching my own body, and actually living in a place miles from where SWIM was. Life did not matter as SWIM knew it and swim knew he was gonna die. did not fear or think it a result of the drug, as he had forgot he took one, but actually accpeted the fact without care. at the very end of the peak, he was floating inbetween the cieling and the floor and as he came down, he quite litereally "came down" fuckin wierd. Euphoria afterwards was intense! maybe because SWIM knew he was gonna live? I dont know. SWIM would do this again with a lower dose like 500-600mg.
Anyone else actually have a GOOD experience?

SWIMs tripped on DXM a buncha times with his friends, and smoked weed during/after the trip. the weed helps swim mellow out and ease any anxiety. but anyway, this one time swim drunk an 8oz bottle of robotussin, (4get the amount of dxm.. but dxm was the only ingrediant) and while swim was mid trip he smoked a blunt like usual. but this time was different.. after the blunt was about half way done i couldn't move. swim was sitting in his chair paralyzed. he was too fucked to move. he questioned everything about life, mainly what language was. he realized that communication was just a bunch of grunts and sounds that one person would say after another was done grunting. he would look at a persons face and not understand what he was seeing. his friends faces became the most abstract thing he's ever seen. like we were some random creature (i know we are random creatures, but i finally was able to see humans as we truely are). like an alien.. this intense trip lasted about an hour. afterwards i came down, smoked a blunt and discussed what i saw..
SWIBoB generally finds cannabis in conjunction with his DXM. SWIBoB's most intense DXM experience how ever only had N2O to synergize with. SWIBoB's first FIVE DXM journeys were very dark and difficult, and I believe marijuana played its role in the first couple. In contrast SWIBoB's sixth and break through DXM experience came to be by the grace of cannabis (and the Darkness demo). SWIBoB has yet to come up with a strong inclination either way, he also plans on experimenting with mid range doses and orally ingested cannabis and will report to me how those go.
SWIM did the same thing... a lot. SWIM ended up talking to people and passing out while he was talking, and smashing his head into things. SWIM also had a seizure...
SWIM recently combined cannabis and DXM in the ranges of above 400 mgs and found the experience to feel like she's had upwards of 600 mgs. It feels ten times stronger than it did five minutes ago to her. It seems that cannabis potentiates DXM strongly for her.
