Swim has always wondered about a device that would filter whip cream nitrous chargers but never found one on the market. Swim used "natural" coffee filters over the top of a brass "cracker" with the balloon over top the coffee filter to filter out impurities. Using this method with white coffee filters, after about a box of 24 chargers, reveals usually a significant yellow oily residue sometimes with metal and/or paint chips, no matter what the brand charger. It appears there is one on the market now, the only ive seen so far. From xxxxxxxxx (sorry no sources on this forum), its called the "nitrokit charger filter tool" (google) which has replaceable carbon filters, and must be used with a cream whipper.
heres some more info
NitroKit™ Operating Instructions
Step 1: Insert a standard 8 gram Nitrous Oxide (N²O) or Carbon Dioxide (CO²) cartridge into the high-quality molded charger holder that is included with your NitroKit™ filter system. Step 2: Secure the sub-micron, active carbon filter that is included with the NitroKit™ into the filter cavity of the filter housing as shown to the right. Attach both pieces of the filter housing together by screwing them together. Step 3: With the filter element in place, attach filter housing to your standard Whip Cream Dispenser or "seltzer water" soda siphon where the dispenser's charger holder would normally go. Please note, this device will not attach to the Kovocas™ Glass Soda siphons nor the iSi™ EasyWhip™ machines. It should work with all other iSi™, Mosa ™ whippers and siphons. Step 4: Firmly attach the NitroKit®'s included charger holder to the filter housing to release the cartridge's nitrous oxide (N²O) or carbon dioxide (CO²) gas. Gas is fully released when the "hissing" sound stops and the dispenser feels slightly colder to the touch. At this point you can safely remove the NitroKit™ from your dispenser and enjoy your fresher, healthier, and purified whipped cream or seltzer water!
