Meth worth $50m seized at ports (NZ)
![]() A new entry has been added to Drugs Archive Description: 1 min 8 November 2007 One News, TVNZ Two massive hauls of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of more than $50 million, have been seized at the border. Police and customs officials netted 150 kilograms of methamphetamine, also know as P and psuedoephedrine, an ingredient used to make the drug. The shipment of P was found at the Port of Auckland, while the psuedoephedrine was discover at the Port of Tauranga hidden in roofing tiles. Two men have been charged. Bill Perry from Customs says the bust came down to solid effort by a number of staff. He says hard graft, some good investigative work and the latest technology all played a role in detecting the drugs. Perry says they're happy with the outcome. He says there is no denying P is a major problem in New Zealand. He says while these are very large interceptions, they paint a picture of how bad the problem is. Customs say the drugs were destined for clan-labs and the local market.
