New relvelations about ecstacy

"New research into the effects of ecstasy due to be published later this summer is said to reveal even more evidence that the drug can seriously damage the user’s long term mental health. According to a report by the BBC the chance of dying from ecstasy use is about one in a million but the chance of suffering long lasting mental illness after prolonged use is far higher.

This new research which is being carried out by Dr. Michael Morgan of Sussex University traces the effects ecstasy has on the levels of serotonin in the brain. The drug is reportedly more “ neurotoxic to the serotonin system than any other drug we know, and this kind of brain damage is something you don’t see with other drugs”. The BBC in their report also interviewed an 18-year-old girl who claimed to have suffered repeated attacks of depression, panic and agraphobia due to her weekly use of ecstasy for six years. The levels of serotonin her body were found to be over 60 per cent below normal and she was also told by her doctor that she would need medication for the rest of her life as a result.

However the BBC in their report also spoke to Matthew Southwell of Dance Drugs Alliance whose aim it is to provide accurate information to clubbers was far more sceptical. “I’ve been taking ecstasy for 12 years” claimed Sothhall and we are “not seeing loads of people going into major depression, we’re not seeing people going down with the tremors ….so where are all these people?"

Now using ecstacy weekly for 6 years is not a wise move, so this tells only about how stupid that user was. Also, according to this report one out of a million users dies from ecstacy. That is not bad odds. Legalization? Yup.

BTW: I have not seen anything about whether these pills contained MDMA or not.
