Summer drink-drive and drug tests

Watch out if you plan on flying around the fens this summer. This from the BBC News website (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/c...re/5049976.stm) :

Summer drink-drive and drug tests

Police will check for drugs as well as give breath tests

Drivers suspected of drink-driving are also to be checked for drugs in a summer campaign across Cambs this year.
Officers breath testing drivers will carry out impairment checks to see if they are under the influence of drugs.
Pc Mick McCready, casualty reduction officer, said: "With the World Cup days away there is bound to be an increase in people going out and drinking.
"It is never safe to drive under the influence of drink or drugs and we will not tolerate it in Cambridgeshire."
During Euro 2004 there was a 30% increase in the number of people caught drink driving - up from 82 in 2003 to 108.
At Christmas and New Year 197 people were caught under the influence of drink or drugs while driving.
Pc McCready said: "The number of people being caught driving whilst under the influence continues to increase. "To those people, our message is clear - if you drive under the influence of drink or drugs, expect to be caught and brought to justice. "The maximum penalty for drink driving is a six month prison sentence, £5,000 fine and a driving ban of up to 12 months."
