Purity tests for Heroin

Im sure you all have seen movies where people test cocaine purity by seeing the temp at which it burns ect. I don't know if that is even real, if it is can that be done with H? If not what is the test. How does say, a law official test the purity of H without someone trying it. If there was an easy and acessable way to do it wouldnt that take the issue of purity away and prevent overdoses?
