Started Suboxone (for pain) + Dilaudid?

So I'm not an addict meaning I've never, stole it, asked for it, taken too much of it, etc...

But Chronic Pain makes me hurt so bad I could cry. I'm so sick of it. Since I was 17 it has haunted me and I'm 39 now. Don't get me wrong though. Have at times taken more than I should? *HELL* *YES* bad weather makes me hurt like my mother is kicking me with combat boots. (Sorry mom!)

So I started suboxone today (sublingual) and they started me on 2mg films. It's a low dose. My guts are telling me it's low my pain is beating my @$$ hard.

I have 3 4mg dilaudid. Now if I just took suboxone (45 minutes ago) can I take the Dilaudid? (I'm actually sure I can. What I want to know is (and I metabolise stuff fast) I take a 60mg morphine ER (supposed to last 12 hours and in 8 I'm feeling WD set in).

Gawed do I Ramble. Anyway, if I took 12mg dilaudid. How long should I wait for the next Sub dose? Or should I just wait for WD to set in? I cannot wait for tomorrow. I get to take 4mg at once. I am super excited about the sub for pain. I hope it works.

ribbitribbit added 79 Minutes and 50 Seconds later...

I feel like a stupid @$$ for saying I'm not an addict. That's a lie. I would be instantly if I couldn't get it and I won't lie. When I can sneak an extra here or there I love doing that. So I'm an addict. I'm just lying to myself like an idiot.

Post Quality Evaluations:
Thank you for truthful addict admission. Words like these help people to understand they are in fact addicts instead of lying to their self.

Re: Started Suboxone (for pain) + Dilaudid?

Thank you for clarifying the addict thing.

I do not understand why you are prescribed Suboxone for chronic pain. Buprenorphine can be good for pain management but usually not to someone who is already tolerant on opioids. And certainly not at 2mg.

2mg is a lowish dose, but although I'm a bit confused if you are taking morphine right along with the Suboxone?

At 2mg, The Suboxone will do a wonderful job a making the effects of 4mg of Dilaudid completely useless. The Buprenorphine at that dose would even make it so IV 4mg Hydromorphone was barely felt if at all. I know this for a fact. I take 1mg Buprenorphine a day, IV. Now IV greatly decreases the the half life and I still need to wait about 36-48 hours before I will fell any effects from IV Dilaudid.

Now, If you are taking the Dilaudid orally, then the Bioavailability goes down the tubes. Oral Dilaudid is not very useful in anyone as it was even only originally developed for IV use.

After the use of other narcotics for a while, Personally I would wait until I felt a good amount of withdrawal before taking any more BUprenorphine. You could be sorry.

If you are dosing your Dilaudid, Morphine, and Buprenorphine at the same time, you may get the analgesic benefits, but you will not get the euphoric part of the pain relieving. Euphoria is a part of the pain relieving process as well.

I hope I am not too confusing as I had a hard time figuring out exactly what you were going to do as well.

In my experience, a dose around -1mg of Buprenorphine is way better when being used in conjunction with other opiods as it has less binding and allows others to bind to your opiod receptors. 2mg does a pretty good job at filling them up completely, knocking all others off and leaving no room for others to come and play.

Pain docs who prescibe this drug for pain patients usually do it in the form of a low dose patch. I don't think the films are at all approved for use in pain patients.

I am very surprised at your entire situation. It makes very little sense to me

Re: Started Suboxone (for pain) + Dilaudid?

No, remember me the honest part that says he's not an addict but is?

Well, I have 8 herniated discs and 5 that feel literally like i have physical objects in my back it hurts so bad. I wonder if I should post this back in the introductions forum because this would have been so much better than what I wrote. You guys all know how the story goes and you all know how it ends. If you *DO NOT* know then go get more pain medicine than you should, take a safe amount more than you should and then you'll understand why the rest of us are here trying to figure out our dual-identity and I don't mean a gender crisis.

So mine goes like this:

5 Herniated discs in 1992 (nothing for pain, I was active duty at the time and I gutted it out).
2 years later I was all betta (I was in better shape Matthew Phelps and I'm not making that up.)
In 2007 I did something I don't fully understand but my QL (quadratus lumborum spasmed so badly that it pulls ribs out). My pain was unreal.
I started on 2 Oxycododone 10/325 every 4 hours plus 1 soma every six and it barely took off the edges. For a month I crawled around my house.
From 2007 to abou 2008 the Oxycodone worked but I started needing more and I had a merciful PA who let me have 500 a month and she didn't ask. She knew. We just did blood work every 3 months and I told her I'd drink 3 liters of water a day and I did.
Well none of that worked after a while it just ... stopped.
So we tried Avinza. (ER Morphine) Holy crap that was a tic-tac. I think I get better pain control from breath mints.
So then we tried IR Morphine well that was better, it was like 2 tic-tacs.
Eventually I got to Methadone. Got up to 120mg a day. Loved it but after 3 years even that was feeling a bit like aspirin.

I would also like to mention that if it's a prescription pain killer then I've had it. Oh and Fentanyl gets the 3 tic-tac award. That stuff is the most expensive crap I have ever rubbed on pain.

So a friend of mine gave me 4 8mg Suboxone. When it comes to pain that stuff is like *NO PAIN* for me. Take it and my pain dissolves almost as fast. Love it.

So I volunteered to go into Suboxone treatment (I know, I sound like an idiot don't I?) but at 2mg I feel better than when at 60mg of morphine. I cannot wait until tomorrow when I start the 8's. I'm going to be one happy little dude.

I do have to be honest. I'm in so much pain I could care less about the euphoria if my pain would go away.

I wish it was legal to hunt pain and exterminate it. I'd be a member of a "Pain Death Squad".

Re: Started Suboxone (for pain) + Dilaudid?

What you describe sounds to me like pseudo addiction, instead of addiction.

Even if it was addiction it wouldn't make you a bad person.

This is just a guess but I think if it was someone you loved instead of yourself in this much pain, agony, almost despair, you would find a way to get them to someone who was responsive and capable of helping.

SEALS always find a way to get the job done.

Please keep updating,

Re: Started Suboxone (for pain) + Dilaudid?

I've posted a relevant article. 2mg buprenorphine is not a big enough dose to render break through medication useless. I know a pain and addiction specialist who uses buprenorphine with good result in cancer patients.

Re: Started Suboxone (for pain) + Dilaudid?

Hi. I was just wondering how you're doing now. Is the pain easier to deal with now? I'm also wondering If you doc thought maybe you had a problem and maybe that's why you were put on the suboxone. If that's the case then they may not even have told you that. Just a thought. Hope you're feeling better!

PS, 500 a month??!! Wow! I'm surprised that Dr hasn't lost their license for that. I'm pretty positive that here in the states the most they can legally write you for of that particular drug is either three or four a day! I know they can write you additional scripts for differ meds but 500 of that one in particular!!??

Re: Started Suboxone (for pain) + Dilaudid?

Buprenorphine is indicated for moderate pain in opiate naive individuals at usual doses of about 0.3mg. Doses of 2mg and above are meant for addiction treatment. It is not for severe pain. A single dose of 2mg buprenorphine may not completely block other pain meds, but multiple doses will. It has a long half life and builds up in the system. Buprenorphine has a very high affinity for the opiate receptors, but low intrinsic activity. It knocks opiates off the receptors that have higher intrinsic activity but lower affinity. According to my Doc, the only common opiate that has high enough affinity to break through buprenorphine is fentanyl. Even then higher doses of fentanyl than normal are required.

I once complained to a former pain doc of mine that my tolerance had gotten too high because of taking oxymorphone. He told me "I could put you on Suboxone for a while but it won't do anything for your pain."

great accurate information!
