HANOI, Vietnam (AP) - Three drug dealers were sentenced to death while another three were given life in prison for dealing liquid Valium in northern Vietnam, a court official said Wednesday.
The Ha Tay criminal court sentenced 13 defendants involved in a ring that sold up to 14,000 millilitres of Diazepam, a liquid form of the depressant Valium, said court official Manh Tuan.

The drug was apparently brought to Ha Tay, just outside of Hanoi, between January and July 2002 from northern Lao Cai province, 320 kilometres northwest of the capital, he said.

The remaining seven defendants received between two to seven years in jail, he said.

Vietnam has some of the toughest drug laws in the world.

Possessing, trading or trafficking more than 5,000 millilitres of Diazepam is punishable by death.
