November 9, 2005,

Rod Stewart has vowed never to snort cocaine again - because it's not as strong as it used to be. .

The ageing rocker, who admits to dabbling in drugs in his wilder days, says he can't understand why people touch the narcotic now dealers are mixing it with other substances. .

He told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "I don't know why anyone would want to take coke now. It was different in my days because it was all so much purer.
"Now these dealers mix it with salt, washing powder, anything they can get their hands on".

The star, who is currently expecting a baby with model Penny Lancaster, is also horrified the Class A drug is so readily available - and has lost its novelty factor. He said: "It used to be a great novelty.

"Now it seems every Tom, Dick and Harry can get their hands on it because it's become so widespread" .

The 60-year-old says he limited his own drug use - because he didn't want it to interfere with his beloved football. He revealed: "I'd have a little line and find that nine times out of 10. I couldn't do any sports I'd think, 'I can't go mad Saturday night because I'm playing football Sunday morning'. Football has always been a huge part of my life I love it. So it just wasn't for me"
