Experiments, where experienced volunteers smoked from a glass apparatus heated to 260°C and containing 50 mg of cocaine base, demonstrated the rapid increase in plasma cocaine levels during smoking as compared to intravenous (IV) cocaine administration, that would be expected from what is known of the smoking process with nicotine and cannabis (Benowitz, this volume; Perez-Reyes, this volume)
On average, 70 (range 10 to 85) mg of the cocaine base remained in the flask and was recrystallized on the surface of the tubing after smoking. Thus, on average, a maximum of about 30 mg of cocaine base was delivered to the mouth of the inhaling research subject. An indeterminant amount of cocaine was broken down to poorly characterized pyrolytic products in the smoking process. The biological activity of those products is not well established. Thus, in fact, considerably less than 30 mg of cocaine base was probably delivered to the mouth of the inhaling research subject. Our electrically heated 1-liter flask was, of course, a rather special and not a typical free base pipe, but experience with cocaine pipes brought into the laboratory by research subject volunteers is similar. Much, perhaps even most, of the cocaine base placed in the pipe does not reach the mouth of the smoker. How much cocaine aerosol actually reaches lung alveoli depends on heating conditions, air flow, number of inhalations, and other things determined largely by the smoker who only reluctantly yields control to the researcher, if cocaine smoking is like other smoking behavior.

The resins can be softened by lightly heating the
outside of the pipe in the area where it has
accumulated; the resin should be melted just
enough to break the bond that binds it to the pipe,
but not back into full liquid form.
When the outside of the pipe is heated enough to
break the resin bond, the screen can be pushed to
the opposite end of the pipe with the resins at the
front of the screen.
During the push, care should be taken not to tilt the
pipe or the resins may fall out and scatter.
After the push, new resin hit can be drawn from the

Sorry to pull such an old post, but in SWIMs experience, SWIM and his friend who were extremely experienced in basing, would use Everclear grain alcohol to wash out a glass steam roller after 1/4-1/2 oz worth of base were smoked out of it.
They would dump it on a large mirror, and light it, and scrape up the resins with a razor blade and smoke them. They were good hits.
SWIM does not know about acetone, but Everclear was the solvent of choice. The burn is clean and controllable as long as too much is not used.
Acetone doesn't work as well as grain alcohol. My friend and I tried acetone once and it gives it an off taste. Though after a while, you can't really tell can ya :P
why is a brillo pad needed? why can't swim just put the rock in a metal weed pipe with some cig ash and have a go? Swim also has one of thoe mini rock pipes, basically just a stone with a hole going through and one end being wider to pit the product in. Swim thinks this is meant for crack because one has to tilt it upwards inorder to use it really, and weed always goes through the hole...
SWIY can use a metal weed pipe if he wants but the reason a brillo pad is needed is to soak up the crack as it burns so that it doesn't burn up too quickly and get wasted or just fly down the pipe into SWIY's mouth (and that would hurt!). However, SWIM thinks that if SWIY has a weed pipe with gauze filters, then SWIY probably could just put a little ash on to the gauze and fire up the rock on top that way. The reason most people who use a proper crack-pipe with brillo prefer it is that it gives a purer, cleaner smoke. However, if SWIY is like SWIM and prefers the 'dirty' smoke of a home-made crack pipe then there is no reason why SWIY can't use ash.
PS: SWI-Hammertime - brillo is definately available in the UK - just have a look in any corner grocery shops and SWIY should find it.

Ok cheers. Swim had heard of Brillo pads but they are different to the type of Brillo pictured in one the threads and SWIM defo needs a new source for his screens as he will soon have no picture on his TV due to diminishing aerial!

Ok SWIM could not find the copper brillo pictured in thread but has found steel wool brillo pad with soap all over it that he has washed off and burnt.
Also swim does not know where to get a glass tube from so has used copper piping instead, he assumes this will work just aswell?

swim finds that a wind chime with the holes wrapped with electrical tape works very good. the gas station by swims house sells little glass tubes withs roses in them, and they usually have chore (brillo) right next to the roses(what a coincidence). this will work in a pinch but swim finds that the glass tubes break easy and much prefers wind chimes to glass. also a broken radio antenna will work too.
Perhaps Drug Forum should host a "best home-made pipe" competition and users could upload and post their little beauties for public perusal and Alfa (or 'the moderators' collectively) could judge which pipe comes 'best in category' ... lol, it's just an idea SWIM had whilst using her li'l pipe!
Amazingly SWIM has searched high and low and has confirmed that the only brillo found in england are the steel wool pads with soap on them! No chore boy either so SWIM has had to search online for" copper scourers and has found packs of 25 for tenna! Nightmare

Are there craft stores in one's area? Or 'box stores', a la WalMart?
Instead of copper brillo, one can get copper craft wire, tangle it themselves, then stuff in a straight shooter-style pipe. Tiny crochet hook helps with the tangling, but not needed at all.
Same rules apply, burn well & cool prior to insertion, tamp down well with a pusher of some kind, etc.
swim remembers when smoking "the machine" in london they used to be able to preserve any unsmoked crack within the guaze... swims always seems to go within one hit? swim puts alot on but sure iys just running through into the bottle "mini cognac bottle"
Bumpbump ... how does SWIY light it? If SWIY blasts the crack full on it will just burn up really quickly and some of the hit gets wasted. But if SWIY takes a softly-softly approach to begin with, dancing the flame on and off the pipe, whilst turning the bottle and pulling on it gently to really get it smoking and then when the bottle's filling up nicely with smoke whack the flame full on to the pipe and pull hard taking all that thick crack smoke into SWIY's lungs ... hold it for a good 30 secs at least and then exhale slowly ... best hit in the world if SWIY can get it right, it's tricky though: not like a home-made, upright pipe, which is pretty much fool-proof - the little spirit bottles take some practise and getting used to sometimes before you nail it. Well worth the effort though if you can be bothered.
In a pinch, SWIM would go to Walgreens, buy a chore boy/brillo and a glass eye dropper (since everyone stopped selling the rose stems), break the smaller end off, and use that. All for about $5 (if you don't want to just steal them, that is), and there's Walgreens everywhere.
swim smokes with a water bong and LOVES it!!!! gives swim a ringer almost every hit!!! swim used cold water and ice in the past like w/ weed, but recently was told to use warm/hot water for a better hit. not sure about that yet.
Swim has a killer crack pipe that he has found to produce unholy plumes of crack smoke. For this he uses:
1. Glass stem- most beverage stores sell them
2. Chore boy- most beverage stores that sell glass stems sell chore
3. A writing pens gel comfort grip- may take one or two before you find one that fits your stem, but most do.
4. 16 oz Gatorade bottle-empty
5. Sharp scissors
6. Rubber gromet(not always necessary)-most headshops sell these for bong replacement.
First take the scissors and spin one scissor blade tword the bottom of the gatorade bottle to make a circular hole a little bigger than your stem but not much at all.
Second prep chore and insert in stem as per usual.
Third take the comfort grip off the pen and put it partly through the hole in the bottle.
Fourth push the mouth side of the stem into the comfort grip so that a little bit of the grip (an eighth of an inch or so) is still outside the bottle and less than a quarter of the stem goes into the bottle and makes a tight seal.
Fifth cut a crab on the side and now your stem is a steamroller that doesnt leak and will pull time and time again, and unless hardcore flame is used the grip wont melt.
These gel grips also make nice mouth pieces for a glass stem to not burn your lips
Swims local smoke shop sells glass stems in a variety of lengths. But before swim knew that he would go with the old tire gauge and brillo and it worked perfectly.
Swim has found that after 7+ years of smoking crack, a glass stem and chore boy remain the most available and reliable way to smoke. Yet as of late, swim decided there must be a better way. He found it. For around &10 you can buy a pyrex slide for a bong which works fantastically well as a replacement for the stem. Still use chore boy though, tried a ball made of brass hash filters and didn't find a tremendous difference. The slide has a little handle on it, and is much less incriminating if found. Swim also uses a 4 inch thick yet flexible plastic tube as a mouth piece, and since then has had no issue with scorching throat or chapping lips. It has been a nice change.
SWIM hates being in the middle of a binge and having to smoke out of a broken jagged stem, or even worse, rig up a pop can. It is getting harder and harder to find glass stems and even the proper type of chore in SWIMs town. Most stores now either have the plastic chore, or even copper coated plastic Chore. Beware, even Chore Boy now has a scrubber called Chore Boy Ultimate Copper Scrubbers. These are still pure copper but they have done something to them where they do not work as well in a stem. They get all globbed together and nasty after just a few hits. One can still find the good ones in the ghetto shops but their hours are limited and SWIM hates driving into the Ghetto when he is already geeked.
Nowadays SWIM just gets his stuff online. SWIM can get a box of 36 glass roses for the price of 1 or 2 at the local ghetto store, the same with the chore. Just takes some advance planning is all. This might not be an option for those still living at home or with a need to really conceal their activities.
SWIM remembers back in the day he could walk into a store right by one of the cities biggest dope spots and as for a "Kit". The asian clerk would reach under the counter and produce a paper bag that cost 3 dollars. Inside the bag was a stem, a section of chore and one of those generic crack lighters. Those were the days.
in Brazil I've never saw a glass pipe and my dog is so curious about it.
He will try to find a way to put his hands on a glass tube and brillo pad. But we do not have cooper brillo so maybe it will be the stainless steel one.
here they usually use anything to manufacture a pipe. One that my dog liked was made with half of an empty bic lighter with a hole in the side and a piece of old TV antenna. Using the technique of the aluminum foil with small holes and ash.
