I was prescribed 18 mg of Concerta last week. The therapist said that
concerta has a lower chance of an anxiety attack and she's giving me
the lowest dose, because she wants to be careful. Well I've only had
one anxiety attack in my life, and that was two years ago... I don't
have anxiety and it's not something I worry about.

But what should I tell my therapist to get switched to adderall? She
said that if there's something wrong with concerta, then I can try
adderall, and after that, then I've already tried the two most
effective medicines for ADD and there are others that don't work as
good and have more side effects. So getting switched to adderall isn't
out of the question, and I obviously need to tell her that I haven't
been having any problems with anxiety, but if concerta is working, then
why would I switch? Obviously because I want a better high, but I
probably shouldn't tell her that. I'm already under suspicious because
I have a history of drug abuse (I'm on probation for possession of
marijuana).

Are there any specific problems with concerta that don't exist with adderall?

Just say it does not work. I am on Concerta right now because I really have ADD. I want adderall because I hear it works much much better. I just told my Doc that that Concerta worked great for my add the first day, and then then slowly stopped working for me over the period of a week. I then said thatI tried taking two at once, and it did nothing. They said okay well we can try adderall, but monitor yourself closely... Give it a shot

Chrispy should urgently read the rules.
Re: Switching from Concerta to Adderall?

Just Google side effects of Concerta and see if you have any. Then exagerate that side effect, complain about it a lot, etc... Or just say the Concerta isn't working like you thought it would. Say you can't focus, you can't sit still, or whatever. Just think of one thing and STICK WITH IT. The best thing you can do right now is to Google Concerta AND Adderall and find out all you can. You'll figure out what to do. Good luck.

Re: Switching from Concerta to Adderall?

SWIM is trying to do the same thing. He is going to say that concerta makes him nauseous and that he doesn't like the emotional state the drug leaves him in when it wears off. SWIM will just say that it doesn't work as well as he'd like, and he wants to try adderall to see how it works. But he is just worried since his doctor hasn't really diagnosed him with adhd, his doctor just kinda let him try concerta to see if it helps with his concentration problems. So SWIM is just worried that his doctor will kinda have that "beggers can't be choosers" attitude towards it. But we'll see how it goes, since concerta gave him panic attacks, he doesn't even want that anyway so it doesn't really matter.

Re: Switching from Concerta to Adderall?

Just tell the doctor the truth. You don't like methylphenidate because ... and have heard good things about adderall. If your doctor doesn't want you on a medicatrion, theres probably a good reason why. Ask him, and if hes clueless or unwilling to work with you, find a new doc.
