Friend with problems talking after heavy cocaine use

SWIM has a friend he rolls with sometimes who loses the ability to speak after a night of heavy rolling. It's like he tries to talk, but his mouth won't work (words want to come out faster than his brain?). He starts talking, and after the first few syllables can't utter a word for 15-30 seconds.

This tends to stick around sometimes well after the comedown, altho the ability to talk always comes back eventually. SWIM is concerned his friend is doing himself some neurological damage from overuse (see below). His friend thinks "it's something in the cut" because it doesn't always happen every time.

Swim's opinion on the possible cause:

The effects of acute administration of cocaine have been studied using PET and fMRI, with PET manifesting decreases in cerebral glucose metabolism and blood flow, and fMRI revealing regional effects that are correlated temporally with subjective responses.
Any opinions, or similar experiences?Edited by: Nicaine

I have no idea, but I would have your friend lay off the coke untill
you get it straightened out just in case... It sounds like it
could be a very serious problem.

How long has this guy been doing coke and other drugs?. I know sometimes when i was really strung out on blow i would have difficulty speaking. My jaw was always swinging and clenching and the back of my throat would water like crazy sometimes and yes my brain was going faster than my muscular responsesto my mouth. However this sounds completely different, like really neurologically or something as described in the link. Shit i donno. Does this happen when he is on other drugs? Could be the cut like you suggested, cuz alot of crazy cut can do weird stuff too.

Man, Long term coke use is linked to Parkinson's disease. That stumbling could be nothing, but it could also be a symptom of that. There are other possibilities, though. Don't wanna freak you out.

Damn. Thanks for the info, even if it sounds like bad news. Unfortunately he's the type of guy who just prefers not to know when the news is bad. According to SWIM, chances of him knocking off are somewhere between -1 and 0.Edited by: Nicaine
