Shroom hunting Mushroom Hunting in Ohio

Ok im new and getting into hunting shrooms of my own, I live in
Ohio(which ive heard sucks for hunting) But i was wondering what i
might find in the state and im in the North East part of Ohio so tis
not great but i was wondering if i could have any luck finding the
magic shrooms around, Ive been looking around i was walking in a park
by a river and in a hollow tree i found a colony of shrooms i think
they wernt anything special they didnt bruise blue and the sporeprint
was blackish brown sorta say so it wasnt anything i guessed, But im
jsut wondering about what places should i check?, What species could i
exspect to find, What season to do my looking, Thanks for the help guys

According to the XXX, you can find these species in Ohio (I
don't know about specific parts of Ohio)...

Psilocybe caerulipes
Panaeolus subbalteatus
Gymnopilus spectabilis = G. junonius
Gymnopilus aeruginosus: supposedly rare

Caerulipes grows on wood or wood chips (apparently likes birch and
maple). Subbalteaus grows on shit or fertilized lawns. Both of those
have fall seasons.

I do not know much about the two gymnopilus species, aeruginosus is
supposed to be rare... you'd probably have better luck going for the
two mentioned above.

I looked for those mushrooms for years! Little brown jobs all over! I joined
the mycological society, got on the shroomery and finally, I became friendly
with a mycologist who showed me what they looked like. You must be
careful because some species look like ones that can give you serious
problems. Paul Stamets has a good book out on species around the world.

SWIM lives in nw ohio and would like to know what the shrooms look like and where to find them

SWIM has a large feild woods and lives next to a cow farm


Do mushrooms usually just grow on cow shit or does SWIM need to plant them

If SWIY is talking about cubensis mushrooms, then you will have to look for them in the wild [on cow shit, mainly] yourself. Although, this is not the time of year to look for them.

The ideal time for hunting is in the Spring/Summer or the Fall when the weather doesn't get below 40*F and is up to atleast 75-85*F during the day. A good day for hunting is about 2 days after a good rain during those temperature readings.

You can order cubensis yourself, online. They will come in spore form and you'll have to supply all of the other necessary equipment to birth them and keep them at optimal temperature/humidity.

swim who has gone hunting in ohio, said that cubensis don't grow in the US, unless swiy ordered the spores. and swim heard cow shit doesn't produce shrooms in ohio, but swim doesn't know if this is truth, or if it would work with any grain fed animal... horse, cow...swim was looking for panaeolus subbalteatus in ohio. which swim was informed grows on rotting hay and horse shit. swim was also told about gymnopilus spectabilus in ohio, but those contain a very minimal amount of psilocybin and swim has heard of doses of up to 13 grams dried with very minimal effects.
which make panaeolus and cubensis much more worthwhile.
as for cubensis growing in ohio swim is somewhat curious as to whether they occur in the wild there, can anyone say from experience or just knowing the facts?

pick up a copy of high times, they have cubensis kits, only take a month
and if you get this months copy it's a psychedelic issue, lots of info on growing cubensis.
