isolate safrol from wood-chips

hi,


i hope you can help me......i want to isolate safrol from sassafras-wood.Could somwone tell me how to get the oil??? I thought first to extrakt and then to destillate...but under which condition and with which chemicals???

The common method to extract the safrole from woodchips is to do steam distillation on the dried root barks of sassafras trees. The yield should be about 3-7% of the essential oil which should contain about 85-92% of safrole. The safrole is obtained by fractional distillation of the essentail oil, preferably under vacuum to reduce the boiling point.

thx.....steam dest. is shit....cause i have not things to do this....could I get not the oil with a heat extraction???

When you say the yield should be about 3-7% oil...does this mean if you
have lets say a pound of sassafras and do steam distill you should get
3-7% of a pound of oil from it (about 38 grams)?

if its in mass%,yes.Steam dist is the only way to go,unless you have tons of plant material,and a huge press,and then again you would have to distill,so steam dist is the way to go.where swim comes from its not that feasable to steam dist. plant material,when you can buy sassy oil.


one question topdowner if you dont have the equip. to dist sassy,than what do you need it for?
