Description:
HENDRY COUNTY: Firefighters stumbled on a grow house while containing a 400 acre brush fire in Hendry County.
Authorities say they found the marijuana grow house under a structure on a tree farm near the area of Christopher Lane and Pioneer Plantation.
"I know in Lee County they're hitting a lot of growhouses. Kinda makes you wonder if they're coming out here thinking they have a better chance but that's not the case," said Sheriff Steve Whidden.
No arrests have been made and the man who runs the tree farm is nowhere to be found.
This isn't the first discovery of a marijuana growing operation underground in Southwest Florida.
Charlotte County detectives discovered a marijuana growing operation buried in a backyard more than five years ago.
An animal control officer investigating a dog complaint found the plants.
Authorities say there was also a trap door leading to two semi-trucks with elaborate growing equipment inside.
